In a week’s time, the much-detested circuit breaker will end, and everything will go back to normal.

When I say “back to normal”, I mean things will be exactly the same except you can visit your parents and grandparents.

Reader: But not being able to visit them was one of the things I actually liked about the circuit breaker

You’re a horrible son and grandson, dear reader.

Reader: I know.

More businesses and activities will also resume, though, so it’s not like they just slapped a different name on the circuit breaker to fool us all.

Reader: Well, can I eat Chendol at the coffee shop?

Uh, not yet, no.

Reader: Then NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

Well, at least some banks are reopening. That’s something, right?

More Bank Branches Will be Reopening from 2 June 2020

As you know, many banks closed their branches during the circuit breaker to reduce the community spread of the coronavirus.

While some of their branches stayed open because they’re an essential service, a significant number of their branches were shut.

Now, some of them have announced that they will finally reopen after the circuit breaker period ends.

Standard Chartered, the bank that Liverpool fans are forced to love, plans to reopen eight branches that have been closed temporarily during the circuit breaker period, reported The Straits Times.

DBS and UOB may gradually reopen additional branches during Phase 1 of the post-circuit breaker period.

While Citibank hasn’t officially announced that it will reopen its temporarily closed branches, its website states that its 8 shuttered branches will be closed until 1 June.

Other banks are choosing not to reopen their branches at all after the circuit breaker.

According to The Straits Times, OCBC will not reopen its 22 temporarily closed branches, and Maybank’s eight temporarily closed branches will remain shuttered in Phase 1.

DBS,  UOB, and OCBC said that customers are still encouraged to use digital banking services to avoid spreading and contracting the coronavirus.

What Else Can I Do?

There are many other businesses that will reopen during Phase 1, but here are a few that you actually care about:

  • Hairdressers – you can finally dye your hair pink
  • Basic Pet Services – in case your dog looks like Cousin Itt from the Adam’s family
  • Vehicle Servicing – your car might need a little TLC from the mechanic
  • Air-con servicing – you won’t have to sleep in a puddle of your own sweat anymore
  • School bookshops and retail shops selling uniforms – in case your child’s uniform has been dirtied beyond redemption

Unfortunately, since smooching has been deemed a non-essential activity, you still won’t be able to visit your girlfriend or boyfriend, or any friend for that matter during Phase 1.

Social visits may be allowed in Phase 2, however, so we can all look forward to that.

Reader: For over one month you said we could look forward to the end of the circuit breaker.

The only thing we can do right now is to look forward, dear reader. Hope is all we have.

Reader: I’d rather have Chendol at the coffee shop.
