Woman Who Poured Boiling Hot Water on BF’s Groin Jailed for 4 Years

3 years ago in 2017, a woman poured boiling water on her then-boyfriend’s groin while he was sleeping in her living room.

The reason? She thought he was cheating on her and she wanted to “teach him a lesson”.

She had allegedly even said “serve you right” when her boyfriend woke up in extreme pain, asking why she did it.

On Sep 2020, it was reported that the woman, Zareena Begun P. A. M. Basheer Ahamed, was found guilty of causing grievous hurt and that she’ll be sentenced later.

Well, turns out that “later” is now because there’s now a verdict to her case.

Today (26 Nov 2020), Zareena was sentenced by the court to four years in jail.

Zareena’s lawyer, S. S. Dhillon, told the court that she intends to appeal against her conviction and sentence.

Her bail is currently set to $30,000.

Zareena’s actions led to her boyfriend having to spend 26 days in the hospital. He was also unable to work for six months and have suffered second and third-degree burns over one-tenth of his body surface.

Their Relationship

According to earlier reports, the couple has an on-and-off relationship throughout the years.

They broke up with each other multiple times because they suspect the other party of cheating on them.

However, things came to a head in 2017.

Zareena saw her boyfriend with another woman at Harbourfront Centre Terminal.

Since 2015, Zareena had suspected that the boyfriend was having an affair with her.

So in the early morning hours of 5 Jul 2017, Zareena snuck into the living room, where he was sleeping after supper, and snuck his phone out of his bag.

As she read through the woman’s messages to her boyfriend, she got angrier and angrier.

Zareena had allegedly wanted to “teach him a lesson he wouldn’t forget” so she went ahead and poured a mug of boiling water on the groin area of her boyfriend’s pants.

She had tried to argue in court that it was an accident and that her boyfriend had followed her into the kitchen during a quarrel, and accidentally caused her to pour the hot water on him.

However, this version was subsequently refuted by the doctor who attended to the boyfriend’s injury during that fateful night.

Injuries indicate that the man was lying down when the incident happened, and not seated down as the lady tried to suggest.

It was also added that the ones who lodged a police report weren’t the boyfriend, but the hospital.

For causing grievous hurt with a heated substance, she could’ve been jailed for life, or up to 15 years, with a fine and strokes of the cane.
