It seems like breaching Stay Home Notice (SHN) is a thing these days. From the man who allegedly breached his SHN to meet this woman he met on his flight to the British National who breached his SHN to meet his fiancee, news of people breaking SHN are plentiful.

This time we have a man that left his hotel room three times and one time was to sit on a chair along the hotel corridor.

Man Charged for Leaving Hotel Room 3 Times While Serving SHN; Twice Was to Meet a Woman

27-year-old Ang Chenrui was served with a 14-day SHN from 17 April to 1 May this year when he arrived in Singapore.

After clearing immigration, Ang was brought to a JW Marriott Singapore along Beach Road, where he is supposed to serve his 14-day SHN without leaving the hotel room.

Normally, if a person was informed that they will be having a 14-day “staycation” in a 5-star hotel, they would not leave the hotel room unless they were “kicked out”.

However, Ang did not get the memo.

Went for Dinner with Woman at Serangoon

Three days after he’d enjoyed the luxury facilities of the hotel room, he escaped it to have dinner with his female room tenant at Serangoon. They allegedly went to NEX Shopping Centre as well.

He went back to the hotel room alone that night.

Left Room to Sit on A Chair

At some point, he must have decided since he has already breached his SHN, he might as well breach it more. The next day, he left his room again. However, this time it was to sit on the chair place along the common corridor.

After spending some time with the chair in the corridor, he went to the ground floor lobby of the hotel. Probably to spend some time with the other chairs there.

However, before he could say hi to his beloved seats, he was chased back to his room after the hotel employees spotted him.

Supposed to go for Consultation at IMH but Went to Orchard Instead

On 24 April, Ang obtained approval to go to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for consultation. After the approval was verified, Ang was transported to IMH by a dedicated transport the hotel had arranged.

Upon reaching IMH, he threw in the “escape card” and went home instead. He met up with the same female tenant he met on 20 April. They went to Orchard Road and later to a restaurant near Farrer Park.

After that, Ang seemed to have forgotten about SHN in the hotel for he went home instead.

Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) was alerted to Ang’s disappearance once the hotel found out Ang did not even register for the consultation at IMH.

Admitted to IMH

ICA officers were dispatched to his home where Ang “self-dismissed” himself from his SHN in the hotel.

He was then admitted to IMH to serve the remaining days of his SHN. Details of his admission were not disclosed.

S$10,000 Bail

Ang was offered a bail of S$10,000 and will return to court at the end of this year to plead guilty. He was not remanded.

He could have been fined up to S$10,000 or been sentenced behind bars for six months or both for each charge.
