On 17 Nov 2020, HDB released 5,795 flats in their final sales exercise of the year.

And within a single day, two of the bigger BTO projects among the seven available ones are oversubscribed.

Yes. One. Day.

And that’s despite a website glitch which made many people unable to successfully apply for a flat.

Bigger BTO Projects in Bishan & Toa Payoh So Oversubscribed One Project Has More Than 5 Applicants For Each Unit

According to The Straits Times, by 5pm on 18 Nov, there are more than 720 applicants for the 144 5-room units at Toa Payoh’s Bartley Beacon housing project.

Its 4-room and 3-room flats are not oversubscribed yet.

Meanwhile, at Bishan Ridges, there are 2,606 applicants for its 1,222 4-room flats and 233 applicants for its 124 3-room flats.

Both the four-room flats and five-room flats at Tampines GreenEmerald were oversubscribed, with an average of 1.5 applicants per unit.

It’s not just mature estates either as Sembawang Sun Sail has around two times the applicants for its 3-, 4- and 5-room flats.

The class’ most unpopular kids this time are the Tengah projects: Garden Court @ Tengah and Garden Terrace @ Tengah.

Even then, the 4- and 5-room flats are almost fully subscribed while its 218 3-room flats only had 98 applicants.

Good Location

If you’ve read our other article about the latest sales exercise, you’ll quickly realise that popular projects are situated in good locations.

The Bishan Ridges project is located just a 5-minute walk away from Bishan MRT station and is just beside the Kallang River.

No wonder it’s so oversubscribed, eh?

Meanwhile, Toa Payoh’s Bartley Beacon is located next to Maris Stella High School and within walking distance from Bartley MRT Station.

Tampines GreenEmerald is located beside the Bedok canal and has a few good schools nearby.

Applications for the flats are ongoing until 23 Nov so if you want to try your luck, you’re welcome to do so although the odds this time are minuscule indeed.

One thing to note, though, is that HDB flats take longer to build now (up to 5 years) and the projects in Tengah are slated to be the first to complete in 2024.

Upcoming Sales Exercises

For those waiting for the next exercise, HDB will reportedly launch around 3,500 flats in the following areas in Feb 2021:

  • Bukit Batok
  • Tengah
  • Kallang/Whampoa
  • Toa Payoh (Bidadari)

In May 2021, another 3,800 flats are slated to be released in the following areas:

  • Bukit Merah
  • Geylang
  • Tengah
  • Woodlands
