Walk by Bugis Street and you’ll hear blaring party music at 3pm in the afternoon.
You will also probably see fruit juice. Oh and don’t forget that random adult store in the middle of the mass of tourists and Singaporeans alike.
Yes, Bugis Street is a hot mess, but a haven for cheap trinkets, clothes and food, and if you’re a fan of this place, here’s some good news:
Bugis Street & Village Will Be Revamped With Container Shops & A Link Bridge To MRT
Bugis Street will soon be merged with Bugis Village, which is a mall located in the same area.
Together, it will join forces to form an integrated shopping destination which will go by the name of Bugis Box.
Taking inspiration from the very successful Funan Mall, Bugis Box will soon feature container shops, a marketplace that opens all day and a modern street market.
Retail Incubator
There will also be a “retail incubator” for established brands and newer companies to try their hand at experiential retail, aka trying new retail concepts.
This means that offerings for shoppers will be diversified.
“A retail incubator will offer established brands and new entrants a space to innovate new ways of creating curated brand experiences or pilot new concepts.”
Food
There’ll also be a new food area which will specialise in serving up popular local dishes and other food from around the region here.
Besides this, diners can also try to remake these dishes on the spot or even purchase local ingredients like laksa paste or bak kut teh soup packs.
Convenient Linkway Bridge from MRT
No more having to roast under the blistering Sun because there’ll be a link bridge connecting Bugis Street to Bugis+, which is connected to Bugis Junction and subsequently Bugis MRT.
It’ll definitely make it a whole lot more accessible and convenient for you to pop by the new Bugis Street, aka Bugis Box.
The changes seem super promising and it looks like visitors have a lot to look forward to!
