Bid goodbye to cash transactions as it will be completely phased out by 2020.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and TransitLink have made this announcement on 11 August.
And this is happening from 1 September.
What a way to start the new month!
Okay, not to worry, it’s only affecting 11 stations for a start and they are:
Admiralty, Bedok, Bukit Panjang, Buona Vista, Farrer Park, HarbourFront, Hougang, Lakeside, Pasir Ris, Serangoon and Yew Tee.
These locations are chosen due to their average passenger traffic and the availability of alternative cash top-up options elsewhere in the neighbourhood.
So those who kena this change first, I am sincerely sorry for your loss.
In actual fact, it’s not that bad.
Only the Passenger Service Centres (PSC) (you know the person that sits down there to help you with your top up?) will be phased out.
There, here’s a picture for you.
General Ticketing Machines (GTM) at these stations are still around. You can still top up your cards with cash there!
If all else fails, just proceed to 7-Eleven or Cheers outlets for your top ups.
But if you’re exceptionally worried, fret not because at least one service agent will be positioned at each station to guide commuters through the transition.
Helping seniors go cashless in transport system
Observers say Singapore must find ways to help seniors adapt in the transition to a cashless transport system. http://str.sg/4rex

As for the remaining train stations’ PSCs, the authorities will be tracking the influence of this phase on its commuters before deciding whether to proceed with the termination next year.
Some senior citizens might find it tough to navigate around the GTMs so young people, it’s time for you to “Do Good, Do Together” 😉
Well, if you see someone struggling with the process, just step up to lend a helping hand.
You can do it, yes you can!
