People often say that the streets are like the jaws of death, and it seems like it’s not only because of the cars that are always moving and driving along them.
In fact, it seems like even stationary cars pose a pretty great deal of danger as well, and I’m sure most would agree after reading this article.
Just yesterday (16 September), a car ended up bursting into flames while being parked at a petrol station along Sembawang Road.
TikTok user @abanginsurance also managed to film a clip of the frightening fire, which quite literally engulfed the car in flames like a terrifying flambé of sorts.

Based on the video, which is 16 seconds long, the incident took place at an Esso petrol station.
The TikTok user also wrote that the fire took place at around 8.45pm that day, and that the petrol station was located along Sembawang Road opposite D’Rubinah restaurant.
According to the information in the video, the car was a BMW.
The video also showed firefighters attempting to put out the fire after reaching the scene, and @abanginsurance wrote “Much respect and kudos [to the firefighters]” in his caption as well.
Thankfully, there were no casualties.
SCDF’s Response
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) later responded to enquiries about the incident, sharing that the engine compartment of the car was involved in the fire.
Before the firefighters reached the scene, a passer-by and a SCDF officer who was off-duty attempted to put out the fire with fire extinguishers.
Afterwards, SCDF personnel managed to put out the fire with a water jet and compressed air foam backpack.
Firefighters then used a water jet and a compressed air foam backpack to put out the fire.
SCDF also confirmed that no one sustained injuries as a result of the fire and that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Passer-By’s Recount
A passer-by, senior risk management consultant Muhammad Murtadha, recalled how he and his friend started to smell burning rubber while they were walking to D’Rubinah restaurant for their dinner.
The 30-year-old recounted how he saw copious amounts of smoke come out from the BMW’s car hood while he was across the road.
In addition to that, Mr Murtadha expressed how he was concerned about a possible explosion due to the fire.
This was due to the fact that there is another petrol station located right next to the Esso petrol station where the fire started.
