Let’s be clear about one thing.
Singapore is “clean and green” not because it’s a nation is full of exemplary citizens who do everything they can to keep our streets clean because it warms their hearts.
It’s clean because if we don’t do so, we’ll get a hard metaphorical whack on our wrists by the gahmen.
How do I know this? Well, you just have to watch how people behave when Big Brother isn’t watching them to see whether they truly care about a cause.
And if this driver is representative of Singaporeans, well, then we’re screwed.
Watch: Car Tossed Rubbish Out 5 Times in Less Than 2 Mins in Telok Blangah
SG Road Vigilante, the platform that gives awful drivers a chance to be famous, recently uploaded a video of an ill-mannered driver along Telok Blangah.
Did he hit someone with his car? No.
Did he refuse to give way to an ambulance? No.
He tossed rubbish out of his car five times while driving along Telok Blangah in less than two minutes.
According to Stomp, the incident occurred at about 7.06pm on Sunday (26 Jan).
Right at the start of the video, the offending car is stationary at a traffic light along Henderson Road when two pieces of rubbish are tossed out of the car.
As the car moves off, another piece of litter is thrown out.
Now, for the first two instances of littering, it came from the driver’s window. But later on, it seemed like the passengers wanted to join in too.
Soon after making a right turn, two pieces of litter were tossed out of either the left rear or front window.
If you blink, you’ll miss it.
And just after passing an overhead bridge, the passenger throws out another piece of litter from the left window.
The driver flings another piece of rubbish out just a second after that.
A family activity?
This is inexplicable for many reasons.
For one, it’s hard to tell, but it seems like all the pieces of rubbish they threw out were little white plastic bags.
Why did they have so many plastic bags and why were they so desperate to get rid of it? Maybe the plastic bags were laced with drugs or maybe they were such passionate environmentalists that touching plastic makes their skin burn.
No one knows.
But considering the fact that these people threw litter out of their car five times in less than two minutes, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it was something of a pastime for this family.
Some families sing songs, some count animals, and others throw pieces of rubbish out their car.
Now, the uploader of the dashcam footage also included the car’s license plate, so we’re pretty sure this driver will get caught, as well he should.
Remember that man who threw a soiled diaper onto a car in the Tampines Mall car park? Well, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said in September that it will be taking enforcement action against the man for a littering offence.
Hopefully, this inconsiderate driver will receive a similar punishment.
