Normally, when we are in an argument, the conversation generally becomes heated. Why?
Obviously, because the goal of the people involved in the conflict of interest is to win the battle.
That beside said, there are ways to resolve disputes without animosity.
Either you try to remain calm and respectful with an open mind, or know when to back off and step aside.
For this man though, he chose to follow neither of the principles.
Instead, he decided to choose violence.
Man Jailed 2 Weeks for Assaulting Taxi Driver
For assaulting a taxi driver, the chief executive of a wholesale trading firm was sentenced to two weeks’ jail on Wednesday (July 21).
Mohammad Alvee Rana, now 26, from R & J Union, had previously pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing hurt.
Alvee claimed that the victim, Mr. Rajadorai Doraisamy, had said that he was “uncivilised” and came “from a Third World country.”
Big claims.
Raja, a 58-year-old Singaporean taxi driver, denied making such statements.
The Incident
It all happened on Oct 21, 2019. Assistant Public Prosecutor Lydia Goh said that Alvee and his girlfriend boarded Mr. Rajadorai’s taxi near Boat Quay at around 10pm.
Alvee requested the driver to change the radio channel. However, Raja responded that he wasn’t aware of how to do so.
On the way to Novotel Singapore On Stevens hotel, Alvee then asked Raja to stop the taxi.
Reason? He needed to urinate.
According to The Straits Times, APP Goh mentioned: “Raja told the accused that he could not just stop the taxi as there were too many cars behind him.
She added, “The accused then told Raja that if he did not stop the taxi to let him urinate, he would urinate inside the taxi.”
Thereafter, Mr. Raja stopped the taxi in Stevens Road and Alvee alighted.
The court heard that the driver then asked Alvee’s girlfriend where she came from. The woman then replied that she came from Bangladesh.
Following suit, Raja responded and said: “Oh, you are from Bangladesh.”
The woman took offence to his statement and told Alvee about it. Raja was subsequently accused of being racist as an argument escalated between both men.
The Assault
Upon arrival at the hotel, two bellmen came forward as Alvee’s girlfriend alighted from the taxi.
Alvee argued with Raja once more before throwing the fare at the older man.
If that’s not enough, Alvee even threw a string of verbal abuse at the cabby with colourful explicit language.
Very feisty indeed.
The APP said: “(The two bellmen) saw the accused leaning forward into the open front passenger window, thrusting his hand forward and pulling Raja by the collar of his shirt. (The bellmen) then quickly intervened and separated the parties.”
Mr. Rajadorai then called the police before going to Alexandra Hospital. He was discovered with injuries including a strained neck.
Alvee has since made S$110 in monetary compensation to Raja for his medical fees.
As he should.
The Law
Just so you know, the government has no tolerance for people like Alvee.
Offenders who voluntarily cause hurt may be jailed for up to two years and fined up to S$5,000.
So please, let’s exercise some self-restraint and learn how to resolve arguments amicably.
