China Mum Delayed Emergency C-Section for Auspicious Date & Nearly Killed the Baby

A Wise Old Man once said:

“Academic certificates might mean in a lot in today’s society, but they don’t mean shit as far as intelligence is concerned. As a matter of fact, you can graduate with a degree and still be an idiot.”

And while I hate siding with the lecherous old man, I have to agree with him on this one:

Academic certificates don’t necessarily mean everything.

China Mum Delayed Emergency C-Section for Auspicious Date & Nearly Killed the Baby

Before I start, here’s a quick-fire question between you and me;

Would you prioritise an auspicious date over the life of your own baby?

Yeah, sounds like a total no-brainer right? But here’s the thing:

There are people who, for lack of a better phrase…

Will actually prefer to think “long-term” rather than “short-term”…

Like this Chinese Mum we’re about to gossip about.

According to Chinese media, an unnamed woman from Zhejiang, who’s believed to be a university graduate in her 20s, had visited a hospital for a routine check-up on 17 September 2019 when an ultrasound revealed that she had a prolapsed umbilical cord.

“Huh, simi lai eh?” you ask. “Can eat one alnot?”

Well, I’m not so sure about it being edible alnot, but a prolapsed umbilical cord supposedly means that there was pressure on the umbilical cord that affected the flow of blood and oxygen to the baby. Apparently, the condition occurs in 1 in 10 deliveriesand can cause brain damage to the baby.

Note: When the baby’s deprived of oxygen, which is also known as foetal hypoxia, there’s a possible risk of other health complications and death.

It was then that doctors told the mother (who was 37 weeks pregnant), that she was required to undergo an emergency C-section on the same day.

Just Two More Days, Till The Auspicious Day

Contrary to what most people would do, however, the mother refused to consent to the surgery, and instead insisted on conceiving days later on 20 September 2019.

“My family has already picked out an auspicious day. It is in two days, on the twentieth of September. Any other day is inauspicious,” she reportedly said, despite her doctor’s repeated warnings that waiting another two years could entail the death of her child.

In fact, she continued to refuse surgery even after her belly started hurting at around 4:00 p.m. on 18 September, an indicator that her baby lacked oxygen.

And The Doctors Were Forced To Utilise Their Last Resort

The baby’s death was imminent, and the doctors knew it. As a last resort, the hospital director attended to the family personally and explained the risks and dangers that come with the woman’s actions. The entire conversation was also filmed, as proof that the hospital had done their best.

It was only then that the woman and her family finally gave in.

The C-section was performed at 6:00 p.m. that day, and a baby boy was successfully delivered. It has to be noted, however, that the skin of the baby boy was already turning blue by then, an indicator that he was suffering from hypoxia (oxygen deficiency).

Waiting any longer would’ve apparently been extremely dangerous for the baby, said the doctor who delivered the child.

And with that said, kudos to the doctors in question; you’ve undoubtedly salvaged a life, if not two, from imminent demise.

And to the mother, I pose a question:

Is an auspicious day really so important…

That you’re willing to risk your own child’s life for it?
