On 10 May, while Singaporeans are eagerly waiting for McDonald’s soft opening on 11 May, some are waiting to do a different sort of thing:
To attack people at People’s Park Centre condominium with a helmet and parangs.
A group of youths in black was caught on camera getting attacked by youths in colourful clothes armed with parangs and a helmet.
After my wonderful colleague watched the video countless times, he spotted something:
The entire colourful group seemed to be attacking the group in black so that this lady here could pass by the area while being protected by this guy with a baseball cap.
You can watch the video here:
One person was taken to the hospital in a conscious state while 3 others were arrested at the scene.
9 More Arrests Made After Police Manhunt
On 13 May, it was reported that the Singapore Police Force (SPF) managed to arrest 9 more people for suspected involvement in the armed brawl.
Aged between 18 and 28 years old, eight males and one female were arrested.
So what happened? Why did the gang fights of 1990s make a comeback this year? Is it really because of #CB?
Turns out, it might not be.

According to the police, preliminary findings seem to indicate that “the brawl was sparked by a relationship dispute between a member of each group over a woman”.
Charges They Face
The nine suspects are arrested for three charges:
- being members of an unlawful society
- unlawful assembly
- and rioting armed with deadly weapons
For being members of an unlawful society, they can be jailed up to three years, fined, or both.
For unlawful assembly, they can be jailed up to two years, fined, or both.
As for rioting with deadly weapons, they can be jailed for up to 10 years and caned.
One of them will also be investigated for hiding two other suspects from the police.
And because it’s impossible to fight with a 1-metre safe distance, they are also being investigated for breaching safe distancing measures.
Police Still Looking For Two Men
The SPF is still looking for these two men to come in and assist with investigations.
For anyone with information on them, you can call the CID hotline (6435 0000) or the police hotline (1800-255-0000).
They assure that all information will be “kept strictly confidential”.
Please do not approach the men if you spot them outside and leave it to the authorities.
After all, plenty of violent cases has been happening in Singapore in the past week and people are, as a certain sushi who makes YouTube videos said, “as sensitive as an erect nipple”.
