4th Violent Crime on 10 May Reported, This Time in Jurong West Whereby a Dangerous Weapon Was Used

Last Sunday (10 May) was unlike any Sunday in recent times.

While we were binging Netflix shows and sipping on homemade bubble tea that tastes more like sweetened sewage, violence broke out in several areas of the country.

You’ve already read about the Punggol stabbing, the parang fight in a Chinatown condo, and the brawl between in Bishan.

But, believe it or not, there was a fourth violent crime that day.

And it’s just as bloody as the others.

Jurong West Assault

Yesterday, pictures of a tattooed man sitting in a pool of his own blood were uploaded to the Singapore Uncensored website, and netizens were shocked.

What the hell happened?

Well, today we have our answer.

The bleeding victim in the picture, a 26-year-old man, was attacked by a 21-year-old man with a dangerous weapon.

The netizen who shared the photo said a resident heard shouting in the area and saw the two men below.

A man was seen leaving the area, but it is unclear if he was involved in any way.

The assailant has since been arrested for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.

According to AsiaOne, the police confirmed that the incident took place at Block 452, Jurong West Street 42 on Sunday evening (10 May).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived soon after the attack to treat the wounded man.

Despite losing quite a bit of blood, as you can see, the victim was conscious when he was conveyed to National University Hospital.

A Bloody Sunday

As previously mentioned, this was the fourth violent crime that took place on that particularly bloody Sunday.

The first attack occurred in Bishan, and two men had been arrested.

I’m not a doctor but that does not sound good.

After that, 10 youths were involved in a gang fight at People’s Park Condominium, with some carrying parangs.

Three people were arrested and a 19-year-old man was conveyed conscious to Singapore General Hospital. The police are on the hunt for the other suspects.

But the most serious incident took place late at night when a 38-year-old man died after he was stabbed multiple times along Punggol Field.

The police are still looking for the murderer.

What Has Gotten Into Us?

With all these violent attacks occurring within such a short period of time, one wonders: is the circuit breaker driving us insane?

Before these violent attacks, there were already signs that frustration was growing in the country, with reports of officers and safe distancing ambassadors being abused.

Not to mention the man who stabbed an NParks safe-distancing officer when the officer pointed out he wasn’t wearing a mask.

Now, with four violent attacks in one day, maybe it’s time for the authorities to look into how this circuit breaker is impacting our mental health.

Domestic abuse has increased in many countries under lockdown, so it’s not a stretch to suggest that the stress caused by the Covid-19 pandemic could be taking a toll on some people.

Nevertheless, as my secondary school history teacher told me, violence is never the answer. So put away your parangs, put your feet up, and try to relax.

With so many books, TV shows, and sites like Goody Feed out there, there are so many ways to unwind while stuck indoors.
