There has been a rumour that Cristiano Ronaldo is turning his hotels into makeshift infirmaries for affected patients of the Covid-19 outbreak.
As generous as that sounds, it’s not happening.
Cristiano Ronaldo Is Not Turning His Hotels into Hospitals
According to Spanish publication Marca, the Portuguese football star will be transforming his hotels into temporary ‘hospitals’ to aid his country in fighting the coronavirus.
Alert: fake news.
Staff at Ronaldo’s hotel in Lisbon have addressed the rumours and confirmed that they fake.
“We are a hotel. We are not going to be a hospital. It is a day like everyone else, we are and will remain a hotel. We are being phoned by the press. I wish you a nice day,” said a spokesperson for the institution.
The ‘Pestana CR7 Lisboa’ is situated in the centre of Lisbon, Portugal and it is one of the two hotels that Ronaldo currently owns. The second one is located in Funchal, Madeira, which is his hometown.
Self-Isolating Himself in Maderia
Marca has since removed the story from its website and social media channels.
Although the staff at his Lisbon hotel have denied the rumours, Ronaldo himself has not commented on the hotel situation.

He is currently self-isolating himself in a villa in Madeira, his homeland, and is not planning to return to Italy for the time being.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has not trained and remains in Madeira awaiting events to unfold with the current health emergency,” said Juventus Football Club on Wednesday, 11 Mar, after the squad’s training session.
Ronaldo’s fellow club-mate, Daniele Rugani, has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Ronaldo travelled to Madeira on 9 Mar, to visit his mother, Dolores Aveiro. She suffered from a stroke earlier this month and is “recovering well”.
He previously flew to Madeira on Tuesday, 3 March, with his wife and one of his sons, also to visit his mother.
The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), has decided to suspend all sports at the national level in Italy, including Serie A. It is supposed to resume in May or June if the coronavirus outbreak is contained by then.
Heartfelt Message to Fans
Ronaldo took to Instagram a few days ago to send a short message to his fans regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The world is going through a very difficult moment which demands the utmost care and attention from all of us,” he wrote.
“It is important we all follow the advice of the WHO (World Health Organization) and the governing bodies on how we handle this current situation. Protecting human life must come above any other interests.”
He’s right. Amid all the chaos brought about by the coronavirus outbreak, it is important to follow the practices advised by the WHO and deal with the matter calmly.
