I‘m sure you’ve heard about, if not been to, Old Airport Road food centre. If you don’t (Where have you been, bro?), it’s the place where everyone went for Laoban Dou Hua before they started having shops in all corners of the country.

Have you been there to makan recently? If you did, the place might look like a mess to you right now.

Here’s what happened in the past few days that you might’ve missed because of the Lee family saga.

Cleaners in Old Airport Road Food Centre Went on Strike

According to a report on Lianhe Zaobao, cleaners at the food centre went on a strike on Saturday, 1 July 2017.

Their reason? They were not paid their wages and accused the supervisor of pocketing the money.

Stall owners at the food centre claimed that they have paid the cleaning fees to the supervisor which amounted to about S$6,000.

They told reporters that he left Singapore after collecting the money from them.

Supervisor claims he has distributed the money to the cleaners and his boss’s mother

Meanwhile, the supervisor told his side of the story after hearing about this. He claimed that he has distributed the money out. He only took what was “rightfully his”.

Typically, the supervisor will collect money from the stall owners and distribute it to the cleaners and himself.

The remaining balance will be placed in the company’s bank account or given to his employer’s mother who operated a braised duck stall in the food centre.

He has been doing it for two years.

He confirmed that he has collected about S$6,000 in cleaning fees from stall owners. Of which, S$5,000 were paid in wages to himself and the cleaners. The rest went to his employer’s mother.

“I did not receive any money, and he isn’t in contact with my son.”

The mother stood out to clarify that she has not received any money from the supervisor.

In addition, she claimed that the supervisor has not been in contact with his employer (her son), and they did not know the current whereabouts of the supervisor.

Meanwhile, the entire hawker centre is in a mess and stall owners are losing business.

While the dispute is happening between the cleaners, the supervisor and the mother, who do you think are the greatest victims here?

Is it the cleaners who don’t get their rightful wages? The mother-and-son duo who are allegedly cheated out of their money?

The supervisor who might have been wrongly accused?

Or the stall owners who paid for the services but had to suffer during the strike anyway?
