Clicknetwork Removes Xiaxue from New Show Due to ‘Recent Events’

When police reports were filed against Raeesah Khan, several individuals in Singapore felt that they were entitled to lodge a police report based on their own sensitivities.

Education Minister Ong Ye Kung was one.

DPM Heng Swee Keat was another (no, it’s not the East Coast Plan):

And Xiaxue wasn’t excluded from the list.

While both DPM Heng and Ong Ye Kung have left the issue behind to focus on more important things, like coming out with a new supplementary budget (hopefully) and making sure that schools don’t have to close, Xiaxue is still battling the repercussions of the police report.

The latest of which is her getting removed from a new video series.

Clicknetwork Removes Xiaxue from New Show Due to ‘Recent Events’

On 21 July 2020, Clicknetwork, a massive reality lifestyle channel based in Singapore, announced that they’ll be dropping Xiaxue as a host, following “recent events”.

They said that they’ve always “supported a diversity of opinions, voices and open debate” and emphasised that their hosts’ personal views do not “represent those of the channel”.

They also added that there are “many ways to shine (a) light on issues”, and “do not support opinions delivered in a manner that is divisive”.

They clarified that they are “against racism, bigotry and hate”.

Clicknetwork revealed that they were working with Xiaxue on a new project called “The Public Investigator” but with the recent happenings, they’ll be proceeding with “a different host”.

They pledged to make sure that the Clicknetwork community takes “greater care in their words and actions”.

A Surprising Move

Naturally, netizens have different views on Clicknetwork’s latest move.

Some thought it’s a good move:

While others boo-ed them for dropping Xiaxue:

As for why it’s a surprising move, Clicknetwork had continued working with Xiaxue even through the times when she was controversial in the past.

If you were to go to Clicknetwork’s website, you’ll realise that in the top 12 “most-viewed” videos of Clicknetwork, 8 of them had Xiaxue as a host.

As for their series “Guide to Life” with Xiaxue, it’s still not known if it will continue.

The Cancel Culture

When the police report was lodged against her, Xiaxue responded to the incident in her own unique way.

Other than explaining the tweets that got her into trouble, she also talked a bit about the “cancel culture”.

Other than lodging a police report against her, people have also written in to brands and clients who are working with her in an effort to get them to remove her.

Xiaxue also claims that people are reporting her posts for hate crime daily, hoping to get her Instagram account deleted by the platform.

In an Instagram video posted on 21 July, Xiaxue went on to talk further about the cancel culture and compared it to boycotting.

She emphasised that the culture has reached Singapore’s shores and explained why everyone should take a stance against it.

She’s also giving out 5 free Instagram ads to brands who are willing to “give a F*** YOU to cancel culture”.

Previously, she had stated that the “selfish mob” isn’t just harming her with their actions, but innocent people like her family and employees.
