Former Big Splash Site is Now a Big Outdoor Playground With Many Play Areas Called Coastal PlayGrove

The former iconic Big Splash water theme park at East Coast Park is back in a whole new variation.

Officially revamped as the Coastal PlayGrove, the area spans 4.5 hectare in space and encompasses several enticing play areas.

The 16-metre tall Play Tower, for instance, forms the main structure at the site.

A reconstruction of the original Big Splash Tower, the Play Tower is said to be the tallest outdoor play feature on local shores.

It features a vertical net play area, two tube slides and a Vertical Challenge area comprising hammocks, a zig-zag bridge and more.

Meanwhile, the water play area comes with wading pools and jets of water that come to life in colourful fashion at night.

There is also a nature playgarden for those aged 3 to 12 years old. It comprises three zones: the bamboo tunnel trail, an area with teepees and the trail leading to the sandpit.

Sightseers can also feast their eyes on birds such as the Olive-backed Sunbird and insects like the solitary Blue-banded Digger Bee.

Apparently, there’s an outdoor classroom that’s filled with a chalkboard, log stools and different fruit trees.

It also features a former hornbill’s nest and an artificial nest box.

In addition, Once Upon a Time by The Tiara Society will allow children to engage in dress play.

A multi-concept food space termed the Food Splash, as well as F&B outlets like OldTown White Coffee and Burger King, will cater to the food-hungry population.

Safe Management Measures

Access to the playground will be restricted when safe management capacity is reached.

Visitors are reminded to adhere to basic safe distancing procedures, and to keep to group sizes of eight pax and below.

They are also recommended to turn up on less crowded days of the week, such as weekdays or off-peak periods.

Revamped

The Big Splash originally closed its doors in 2006, and was subsequently turned into a dining and lifestyle destination.

It was then passed over to the government in 2016.

According to The Straits Timesthe Coastal PlayGrove was constructed in a project to rejuvenate East Coast Park.

“We embarked on our efforts to redevelop our largest and most popular park, to provide Singaporeans with a diverse range of recreational opportunities,” said National Development Minister Desmond Lee.

Well, we now have one more place to rediscover in Singapore.
