Sharing living spaces with people can never be an easy thing to do.
When we’re all holed up at home even more thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, we only come to realise the importance of our neighbours living all around us.
Countless heartwarming stories of how communities have come together to help one another out as neighbours never fail to make us smile.
However, some have come together, only barely, to unite against a greater evil, like what’s currently happening in this one HDB block.
Neighbours Come Together To Report Noisy Neighbour
The residents of Block 295B in Compassvale, Sengkang, have a collective vengeance against a particular unit living on the 14th floor of the building.
According to them, this neighbour living on the 14th floor has been causing unbearable disturbance every day, making noises by banging loudly on the walls and ceiling.
The noise could be heard by practically the entire block, which means it must’ve been really, really loud, and they have had enough.
So they’ve rallied together to report this neighbour to the media, and the police, with at least five different neighbours making over 50 complaint calls to the police.
Mr Wang, who lives on the 13th floor, had originally called into Shin Min Daily News to tip the media off about this neighbour.
Since moving in two years ago, they’ve been banging loudly on the walls regardless of whether it was day or nighttime, affecting most households in the block.
“They practically knocked every half an hour, sometimes not stopping even at 4am, causing my one and a half-year-old granddaughter to wake up startled and cry frequently, with the entire family being unable to sleep well which affected our physical and emotional state severely.”
Wonder how they’re so free to keep causing this ruckus day in and day out.
He also added that even after bringing the issue up to various governmental organisations, it had yet to be solved.
Multiple Neighbours Affected
Neighbours living on the 12th floor also complained that since they started working from home a year and a half ago, the noise from the 14th floor left them heavily unable to focus on work and affected their moods.
According to another man who lives on the 8th floor, he thought the noises were caused by the 9th floor unit above him when he heard continuous loud noises after he moved in.
Afraid that the sleepless nights would affect his pregnant wife, he asked around and found out the noises originated from the 14th floor.
The man also shared that neighbours have reported the matter to the police so much so that on that day itself (6th July) police had come down to the block twice to investigate.
Although the police confirmed that they did receive reports at 2:53am of mischief, and had already informed the parties involved of the legal consequences, they said that no further assistance could be done on their part.
14th Floor Neighbour Says It’s Someone Else Instead
What’s a drama without a good plot twist, right?
According to the investigations of reporters who heard noises originating from upstairs while they were on the 13th floor, they occurred at 8:50pm, 8:56pm, and 9:07pm.
So they decided to go upstairs to ask the accused about it, only to have her say that she was wrongly accused and that neighbours have been harassing her instead.
Ms Hong, who lives in the unit in question, denied everything and said she felt surrounded and harassed by the neighbours.
“We have never made noise, the noises were caused by those on the 15th floor, who have now rallied other neighbours to slander us and even set up a group,” she claimed.
Ms Hong also said that residents from the 12th floor once used a hammer to knock on their door, while those from the 13th floor cursed at her and those from the 15th floor even pointing the middle finger at her after constantly harassing her.
The residents on the 12th floor defended themselves by saying they had no intentions of harming others but wanted them to get a taste of their own medicine by replicating the noises.
Rebutting her claims, they said that her son had grabbed onto them during the incident and even tried to drag them into the house, which required intervention from other neighbours.
The case remains under police investigation currently.
Stay tuned for the next episode of the Compassvale saga, where we’ll hopefully find the real culprit behind the noises.
