When it comes to settling disputes on flights, United Airlines still has much to learn. Simply dragging a passenger off forcefully, and using violence? That’s a little too crude and barbaric, not to mention very inefficient as well.
Take a few notes from British Airways.
On a London-to-Jamaica flight on Wednesday, 26 April, a couple on the flight was offloaded at a Portuguese air force base after a row had broken out. Apparently, the couple had demanded a transfer from economy class to first class, and began to argue with flight crew.
The dispute must have been quite bad. The couple even filmed the argument on a phone. It is quite important to note here that the ability to record an argument on a phone does not immediately make you right.
It seems that ever since multiple cases of injustice between customers and the faceless evil of corporate showed up on the internet in video form, people somehow linked recording videos and being right.
Figure out the difference between being right and taking videos, man. If you’re right and you took a video, good for you. If you’re wrong and you took a video, you’re just showing the world how ridiculous you were.
Anyway, after argument got to the point where the flight crew and pilot couldn’t take it, the pilot decided to simply get rid of the passengers, landing in Lajes in the island of Terceira, at a Portuguese air base.
(the island is in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, by the way.)
Good going, mystery couple. Instead of a seat upgrade, or just the flight you paid for, you managed to negotiate yourself a free holiday at a police station on an island.
Once again, I’d like to remind you all that filming does not automatically exempt you from being a dick or being completely wrong. It also means you’re not going to get away with doing stupid things if you threaten to film/actually film.
Also, don’t mess with the British. The Americans might drag you off, but the British will literally drop you off in a military base.
