As someone who has dedicated his entire life to abhorring durians, I can safely say that I would never fork out anything for those literal stink bombs.
I mean; why would anyone pay for something that smells so darn nasty?
Yet, everyday people pull out dollar bills to consume the meaty flesh off those fruit turds.
Which makes me wonder, why???
To add more incredulity to it, a couple actually paid up to $600 for 20kg of durian!
Although granted, it was without their consent.
What happened?
Stomper Nicole was with her husband, David, when they made the decision to buy durians from Wonderful Durians along Sims Avenue past midnight on 27 Dec.
Ironically, their experience was anything but wonderful.
While at the stall, the couple asked for several small kampong durians. The seller had reportedly offered them a cheap price for the durians.
“He cut the durians and put them in the basket,” Nicole told Stomp in a telephone interview. “Then he said $600 for 20kg of durians.”
“I thought he was kidding at first. I thought he meant $60, not $600.”
She used NETS to pay for the durians, but upon finding out it was $600, requested for a refund.
The durians had already been opened
However, the seller declined, saying that the durians had already been opened.
“A Mao Shan Wang durian typically costs $20+ per kilo. These durians are not even Mao Shan Wang,” Nicole’s husband David told Stomp.
Additionally, the durian tasted ‘normal’ and it was generally a ‘lousy experience’.
One-star reviews
It turns out that the couple weren’t the only disappointed ones, as livid patrons turned up in droves on the durian seller’s Facebook Page.
It’s almost as if Wonderful Durians is the Justin Bieber of the Durian industry.
Incredible reviews, really.
Incidentally, Stomper Nicole has something to add:
“I just want other people to be careful when visiting this stall,” concluded Nicole.
Therefore…
Choose wisely, peeps.
And I don’t mean the durians.
Because you never know when you will kena $600 for a bunch of heavy shady-looking durians.
