Election fever is high, but more people are having another fever: fever caused by COVID-19.

Today, MOH preliminarily confirmed an additional 185 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore.

This brings the total number of cases in our tiny island to 44,664.

Of these, 9 are in the community, and 4 are Singaporeans or Singapore PRs.

There’s an imported case involving a Singapore PR who had been placed on SHN upon arrival in Singapore.

A majority of them are residents living in dormitories.

On average, based on yesterday’s numbers, the number of new cases in the community has increased, from an average of 5 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 9 per day in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased, from an average of 2 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 4 per day in the past week.

If you’re crying over this increase (which by the way is something that the authorities have projected), then here are two pieces of news that’ll cheer you up:

Cinemas and staycations are coming back.

Cinemas to Reopen on 13 July; Hotels can Now Allow Staycations

Lest you’ve forgotten, cinemas were closed since 27 March—before the Circuit Breaker even started. Back then, they thought they can reopen on 1 May 2020, but as you probably know by now, the Circuit Breaker has a short circuit and we were all still staying at home on 1 May 2020.

There are not many new movies, but operators are screening older movies as well. You can read more about the news here.

In addition, if you’ve saved up too much cash and have no idea where to spend them, you can now waste them in a staycation. Yesterday, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) announced that hotels in Singapore can now apply to resume two activities: providing accommodation to guests for the purpose of leisure, and opening their recreation areas for children.

In other words, can have staycation liao.

In fact, if you’d like to stay in a hotel that also houses people who are on SHN because their #HomeTours have attracted you, you can still do so, though I wonder if staying at home has somehow fried your brain.

For those hotels, there would be additional measures. For example, you’d get to see a notice that tells you that the hotel is also housing COVID-19 related guests. If your middle name is Risk, go ahead and take a selfie with that notice.

Also, these special guests would be housed in a separate individual floor or block. For that, even if your surname is Risk, don’t risk it by heading there lah.
