383 New Covid-19 Cases In S’pore Today (7 Jun); There Are 14 Local Community Cases

On 6 June, Singapore’s number of community cases dropped back into the single-digit (7) after days of double digits.

Well, today, it just rose back to the double digits.

383 New Covid-19 Cases In S’pore Today (7 Jun); There Are 14 Local Community Cases

On 7 June, the Ministry of Health (MOH) preliminarily confirmed 383 new Covid-19 cases.

14 of them are community cases: 10 Singaporeans/PRs while the remaining are work pass and student pass holders.

Nine of the community cases were detected as part of MOH’s active case finding or tested after they had experienced prolonged acute respiratory problems.

Epidemiological investigations are ongoing for the remaining cases.

Foreign workers living in dormitories make up the rest of the numbers.

With this, Singapore’s total number of Covid-19 cases has increased to 37,910.

25th Covid-19 Death in S’pore

On 6 June, Singapore reported its 25th Covid-19 death.

According to MOH, it is case 11714.

The 41-year-old male Chinese national had recovered from the infection and was discharged on 17 May.

However, he collapsed on 4 June, and the Coroner has certified that the cause of death was massive pulmonary thromboembolism following SARS-CoV-2 infection.

A check online shows that pulmonary embolism (PE) is a “blockage of an artery in the lungs by a substance that has moved from elsewhere in the body through the bloodstream.”

He’s the youngest person to have died from complications due to COVID-19 in Singapore.

Look Beyond The Numbers

As previously mentioned, while the numbers look scary, it’s important that we look beyond the numbers.

Other than non-infectious patients still testing positive for Covid-19, MOH is also doing proactive testing and screening, which means we might pick up more local cases—whether past infections, current infections or simply people who’ve already been quarantined.

Even MOH has told Singaporeans to be prepared for an increase in community cases before Circuit Breaker was lifted on 2 June 2020.

They said that with more people out and about, transmission between the community will definitely increase.

So much has happened since Feb 2020 but let’s not all forget what the initial goal of Singapore’s Covid-19 battle plan was:

It’s not to completely eradicate Covid-19; instead, it’s to flatten the curve and make sure that our healthcare system isn’t overloaded while waiting for the vaccine to be ready.

In other words, don’t be too worried about an increase (as long as it’s stable).

Be worried if, on 8 June, MOH reports 145 new community cases and new clusters in various parts of Singapore like what happened before CB.

So let’s all continue to keep up the good work and practise safe distancing as much as possible.
