There’s been an inside joke since 1819, when Raffles landed on Singapore: Would Singapore celebrate her 55h birthday with 55k COVID-19 cases?
If the numbers have been pretty far off, it’d be impossible, but us just short of 71 cases to the 55k mark, the betting tables have been set.
And we now have the answer: yes.
Today, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed an additional 175 cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore.
This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 55,104.
Out of today’s cases, there is only 1 community case: a Singaporean.
There are also 3 imported cases, and all of them were placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.
Similar to yesterday, the vast majority of the infections comprises Work Permit holders residing in a few standalone blocks in the dormitories that serve as quarantine facilities
Based on yesterday’s numbers, on average, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 3 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 2 per day in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has remained stable at an average of 1 case per day in the past 14 days.
And with Singapore clearing the dormitory cluster, the number of empty beds has increased, too.
So far, 48,583 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.
There are 145 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, and another 6,174 cases are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
No one is in ICU as of yesterday.
