The Covid-19 outbreak has led to the cancellation of many events, to prevent the spread of the virus and keep people safe.
This includes major sports events, concerts as well as smaller-scale gatherings like wedding functions.
Many couples have had to postpone their weddings and wedding receptions to a later date, in light of the recent coronavirus outbreak.
It won’t be wedding season for a while now.
Newlywed Couple Asks Guests To Tapau Food Home From Wedding Banquet
However, one particular couple in Hong Kong decided to take a different approach to the situation and came up with a very creative way to carry out their wedding banquet, while ensuring the maximum safety of those present.
They told everyone to tapau the food home.
I mean, you have to give them an A1 for effort…
It really wasn’t a bad idea, as they still got to have their wedding banquet, while also minimising the possible spread of the virus among their guests.
The bride and the groom already had to postpone their wedding once due to the virus outbreak and rescheduled it to 10 Mar 2020.
However, clearly the situation did not get much much better by then.
Instead of postponing it again, they thought of arranging for takeaway bags for all of their guests, so that they could bring home the food from the banquet instead of eating it there.

Food Packed Into Takeaway Boxes
Their wedding banquet was held at the Chi Fu Metropolis Shopping Centre, according to Topick.
Netizens took to a Facebook group to share pictures of the food packed into plastic takeaway boxes at the event. It mainly consisted of Chinese-style food, like roasted pig, noodles, abalone and vegetables.
The boxes were then packed into takeaway bags, which were left at the centre of each table, for guests to take and bring home.
The Choi Fook Wedding Banquet Group shared that they helped to pack a total of 10 dishes and desserts into 150 bags.
They said that the couple had requested to have it done this way, as they did not want their guests to remove their masks at the banquet to eat. This could have led to the potential spread of the virus among those who were present at the event, in case one or two of them already had symptoms.
Apart from the fact that there was no dine-in meal, the rest of the wedding reception went smoothly as planned.
The guests arrived around 7pm, and the newlywed couple entered the hall at 8.30pm. There were speeches, ceremonies and various performances, but only drinks were served to guests throughout the whole time.
Mixed Reactions From Netizens
Since this was such an unusual and unexpected way of carrying out a wedding banquet, the couple received mixed opinions from netizens after pictures of the food were posted online.
Some looked down on them for making their wedding banquet look so “cheap”. Others had an issue with the fact that so much plastic was being wasted to pack the food and allow guests to take it away.
However, there were still those who praised the couple’s efforts as it allowed the guests to be safe, while the restaurant did not lose any money either.

I personally think it was a good approach to a challenging situation. Food is still food after all, whether it is on a fancy plate or in a takeaway box.
Take it or leave it.
