In His Last Few Hours as MTI Minister, Chan Chun Sing Shows Images of Daily Essentials Being Replenished in Supermarkets

Lest you’re unaware, hoarders are at it again.

After a nation-changing revelation yesterday (14 May 2021), whereby several new measures were imposed in light of the recent spike in Covid-19 cases, our good old Singaporeans swiftly headed off to local supermarkets to do what they do best:

Buy basic necessities… by the truckload.

And apparently, our locals’ wiping fetish simply cannot be satiated. With widely-documented pictures of shoppers hoarding inconceivable amounts of paper, one can’t help but surmise that all the tissue paper boxes, toilet paper rolls and anti-bacterial wipes have since been swept off the shelves.

Which would certainly pose a distinct problem to the rest of the more ‘level-headed’ folks.

Thankfully, however, it seems that stocks are still available in abundance.

So no worries about having to use sandpaper… just yet.

Just yesterday (14 May 2021), the former Ministry for Trade and Industry posted an update on his Facebook page, acknowledging the long queues that have spawned at local supermarkets and clarifying that there’s no real need to worry.

Apparently, supply’s just as extensive as demand right now.

According to the post, their “stockpiles of food and essentials are more than adequate”.

Their “supply chains are also intact”.

“Thanks to our logistics professionals and supermarket staff working steadily to replenish the shelves,” he wrote. “Things are calm.”

And apparently, warehouses and supply stores are more than ready.

It looks like in his last few hours as Minister for Trade and Industry, he has successfully reassured the public amidst understandable confusion and panic.

Though of course, the newly-appointed Minister for Education would still have his work cut out for him, considering the circumstances.

To date, the Minister’s post has drawn over 4.8K likes & reactions, as well as 622 shares.

Netizens have also lauded the authorities’ efforts to prepare beforehand.

Hoarding

Just yesterday (14 May 2021), the relevant authorities dropped a hefty truth bomb on us:

In light of the recent spike in cases, they will be reinforcing pandemic-related measures… again.

Lest you’re unaware, the new rules are as follows:

  • Reduction in group size from 5 to 2
  • Reduction in event numbers
  • Working From Home is now the default working scheme
  • Masks have to be on even when you’re indoors
  • Increased need for testing

They will be kicking in on 16 May 2021.

Following the revelation, Netizens began likening the new phase to that of the infamous Circuit Breaker, and all hell swiftly broke loose as supermarkets became flooded with panicking buyers.

It should be noted, however, that the upcoming month will not be the same as the Circuit Breaker phase.

For instance, you were required to stay at home during the Circuit Breaker period.

In the upcoming month, however, you’re encouraged to stay at home as much as possible.

Even so, let’s not complicate things any further.

Don’t let it become a legal rule before we actually take things seriously.
