With the recent NOC saga amongst other things, it may feel like the golden era of Singaporean YouTube is coming to an end.
Today (25 Jan), it was reported that former YouTuber Dee Kosh is expected to plead guilty to the sex-related offences he was charged with.
With that, it seems like the golden era might finally be over.
If you still have no idea what I’m talking about, head on over here to understand the whole situation better.
The Dee Kosh Saga
Being one of Singapore’s most prominent YouTubers since the early 2010s, Dee Kosh, whose real name is Darryl Ian Koshy, was first accused by various young boys of asking them for nudes and other inappropriate sexual favours. The teenagers had posted various screenshots of their conversations with Koshy over messaging platform Telegram and Instagram Direct Message.
Between 2017 and 2018, he had offered four underage boys money either for them to perform sex acts on him, or for him to perform sex acts on them. The amount of money offered ranged from $1,000 to $2,000.
Although Koshy initially denied all allegations, he posted on his Instagram afterwards that there was some truth to the allegations posted.
This news, of course, spread like wildfire, which then resulted in other issues such as his possession of obscene videos being uncovered by the police.
Some of these videos were taken by Koshy without the victims’ knowledge.
He Was Cancelled, but Will He Bounce Back?
After being “cancelled” widely on almost every social media platform ever, Koshy announced that he would stop making YouTube videos until the investigations were over.
Well, now it seems like he probably won’t do that after all.
A while after being cancelled, he actually hopped back onto social media platform TikTok to address the allegations. The TikTok is no longer on the platform, but you can see what it’s about in our article here.
With the charges pressed against him, he could be jailed for up to two years and fined.
Of course, if he does get jailed, that’s when we know he’s not going to make a YouTube comeback for the foreseeable future lah.

Looking at the local YouTuber scene and all its recent drama, maybe this is what we need for us to recognise the fact that not all that glitters is gold, and that there are probably many more talented and morally upright local YouTubers out there who deserve our support.
Here’s to hoping that the YouTuber scene will get nothing but better from here.
