A Spanish court has ordered the DNA of Mitchell Ong, the main suspect in the murder of Singaporean woman Audrey Fang, to be compared with two DNA samples found on the victim’s clothes, according to a report by Spanish news outlet La Verdad on 9 April 2025.
This development comes after forensic analysis revealed DNA from two men on Ms Fang’s underwear and thigh.
The DNA samples were discovered during an in-depth analysis conducted at a laboratory in Madrid.

The forensic report indicated that while “no traces of semen were detected” in any of the samples, male DNA was found in “low quantity” on swabs taken from the victim’s thigh and various parts of her underwear.
Investigators identified “two distinct, partial male genetic profiles” that now need to be compared with Ong’s DNA to determine if there is a match.
The DNA comparison test was requested by Ong’s defence lawyer, MarÃa Jesús Ruiz de Castañeda, who recently took him on as a client.
According to reports, the defence lawyer stated that Ong admits to having taken Ms Fang to the remote area of Abanilla but denies killing her.
The lawyer also requested a new study on telephone service providers operating in the area where the killing occurred, but this request was rejected by the judge who called it “repetitive”.
The judge noted that an analysis of telephone records had already been conducted at the start of the investigation and that the new time frame and individuals referenced by the defence were not supported by any “indicative evidence”.
Case Background
Ms Fang’s body was discovered near a parking area for lorries in the town of Abanilla on 10 April 2024, with more than 30 stab wounds.
A preliminary autopsy report found that knife wounds and head trauma were the cause of her death.

Ong was arrested six days after Ms Fang’s body was found and has been the sole suspect in her murder. He has yet to make a statement since his arrest.
CCTV at Ong’s hotel captured him leaving at around 5:45 pm on 9 April 2024, dressed in a hoodie and black pants.
According to prosecutors, Ong drove Ms Fang to a parking lot near a restaurant in Abanilla at around 11 pm on 9 April, before the car left at 11:45 pm. They believe Ms Fang was no longer in the car by the time it left the car park.
Ong returned to his hotel at around 2:00 pm on 10 April, wearing jeans and a blue sweater.
Spanish police have confirmed that both Ms Fang’s and Ong’s mobile phones were together in Abanilla on the day she died.

The judge overseeing the case stated it can be inferred “without a doubt” that both Singaporeans were in the same area and time slot on the day of the crime, based on data from mobile phone operators.
Financial Connections
Investigations have revealed that Ong and Ms Fang had known each other for more than ten years.
About six months before her death, Ms Fang had nominated Ong as the beneficiary of her Central Provident Fund (CPF) account.
Around the time of this nomination, almost S$200,000 was deposited into her CPF account.
Manuel Martinez, the lawyer representing Ms Fang’s family, previously stated that the 39-year-old’s CPF account had more than S$643,778.

The CPF Board has confirmed that these funds will not be disbursed until the conclusion of the court proceedings in Spain.
In February, Spanish news outlet La Verdad reported that prosecutors were seeking a murder charge against Ong, with the private prosecution stating there was “sufficient evidence of criminality” to bring him to trial.
Additional evidence in the case includes footprints at the crime scene that reportedly match the soles of limited edition Nike sneakers found in Ong’s hotel room.
The defence has maintained that Ong has “firmly and consistently” denied killing Ms Fang since the start of legal proceedings.
