Life is precious, it’s not worth risking it just because you’ve accidentally locked yourself in a room and desperately want to find a way to get out.

Here’s what happened

A 24-year-old foreign domestic helper was reported to have “accidentally locked herself” in one of the rooms in the flat. In a helpless moment like that, she thus climbed out of the flat so she could find a way to the house through another opening.

This happened at Block 241 Bukit Panjang Ring Road at about 8am on 6 December.

If you’ve watched the video circulating online, the woman who was clad simply in T-shirt and shorts is seen standing on the ledge outside one of the rooms.

33 seconds into the video, another woman believed to be the helper’s employer appears from the living room window and about 20 seconds after, she comes out of the flat and looks over the railing at the corridor.

She then signals to her helper to walk towards her at 0:56.

The drama happens from 1:58 where the lady approaches the end of the ledge where her employer reaches out to her, and she attempts to cross over to the wall under the corridor railing, presumably for her employer to pull her up to safety.

However, she mis-steps and hangs there with her feet dangling in the air.

Thank the heavens she was pulled to safety with the help of her employer, a neighbour and four police officers after a minute or so.

But if you watch closely, the first of the 4 policemen who arrived at the scene at 2:06 strolled really slowly and only ran after he was less than a stone throw away.

I just can’t help but wonder why… Hmm.

Otherwise, all is well and no one was taken to the hospital.

Thoughts

On a side note, if you find yourself locked in the room and you’re alone, please call a locksmith and don’t attempt to get out via dangerous means.
