Drive-In Movie in Pasir Ris Car Park Has Been Cancelled Due to ‘Unforeseen Circumstances’

If you’ve purchased a ticket to the Downtown East Drive-in Movie Screening event on 8 August 2020, I’m afraid I’ve come as a bearer of bad news.

Really bad news.

As it turns out, the event has been cancelled. And the reason, lest you’re wondering with bated breath…

Is supposedly due to unforeseen circumstances.

Drive-In Movie in Pasir Ris Car Park Has Been Cancelled Due to ‘Unforeseen Circumstances’

On 3 August, Downtown East announced that the Downtown East Drive-in Movie Screening event, which was slated to take place on 8 August 2020, has been cancelled.

Apparently, no reasons were provided except that it was attributed to unforeseen circumstances.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances,” they wrote in an e-mail to the media. “We are unfortunately not able to proceed with the event and seek your assistance to update your articles accordingly.

“We apologise for the cancellation.”

As for guests who have purchased tickets to the event, Downtown East said that it will be in touch with them to address the necessary refund issues.

Apart from getting a refund, participants will also receive a $20 Downtown East voucher as a form of compensation.

Wait Staff In Skates

The movie, The Greatest Showmanwas originally scheduled to play on a 12m x 8m screen at the carpark.

Each ticket costs $18 and was intended to admit one car with up to five pax. The ticket includes two burgers and two drinks from Ministry of Burgers, with options to add-on.

Wait staff in roller skates were also tasked to serve customers.

Audio for the movie was supposedly set to play over a designated radio channel in each vehicle, instead of being blasted out in the open.

As per routine, the event was also subjected to safety measures. For instance, guests were supposed to go through a temperature-taking session, and cars were ordered to park at alternate lots to maintain safe distancing.

Monthly Series Of Drive-In Movie Screenings

A while back, Downtown East announced that its monthly series of drive-in movie screenings will be returning on Aug. 8, 2020.

Each session will see a different movie being aired, with the musical hit “The Greatest Showman” originally tasked to get the ball rolling on 8 August.

Subsequent screenings will then be conducted on 12 September, 24 October and 21 November.

Though the event on 8 August has been cancelled, it’s unclear whether the rest of the scheduled screenings will follow suit.

You can follow Downtown East’s Facebook page for further updates.

With that said, let’s hope that things will pick up soon;

In circumstances as dire as the current one, a little pick-me-up at a drive-in movie theatre will surely go a long way.

Or, just watch Song Ji-Hyo’s latest drama, Was It Love, on Netflix.
