Never heard of ElderShield?

I don’t blame you if you haven’t (lucky you), because it was a scheme for Singaporeans aged 40 and above. So why’s that your problem?

Well, it’s because unlike the past, you’re now not allowed to opt out of the scheme, which will be renamed CareShield Life.

ElderShield To Become CareShield, Compulsory For All S’poreans From 2020

Rolling out from the year 2020, Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (PRs) aged between 30 and 40 will be the first group opt into the scheme.

Then subsequently, people who reaches the age of 30 years old will be automatically added to the scheme.

Those who are over the age of 40 years old (born before 1980) can choose to enroll in the scheme from 2021 onwards.

The scheme mainly exists to provide higher and lifetime payouts to severely disabled Singapore residents.

The previous scheme, ElderShield, only provides up to 6 years of payouts.

The payouts will start at $600 per month (up from $400) and increase by 2% every year for 5 years.

But, of course lah, there’s no such thing as a free lunch in this world. Your payout increases by 2% every year, and so does your premium.

The good thing is, you’ll be paying via Medisave.

Plus, the government pledged that they’ll make the premiums affordable for everybody, including a S$250 transitional subsidy for Singaporeans who joined the scheme in the first five years.

S’poreans Pointed Out As One Of The Main Contributors To Underaged Sexual Exploitation in Batam

Singapore has been number one in a lot of things. Singapore Airlines, Changi Airport, the most expensive country in the world, etc.

Here’s one thing Singapore is number one at: contributing to the sexual exploitation of underaged kids in Batam.

Image: picsmine.com

If you ever went to Batam for some hei-sho hei-sho, yeah, you’re one of them. Despite the prostitution being illegal on the holiday island, locals, as well as foreigners from Malaysia and Singapore frequently visit the place for some fun.

Of the adult variety.

Batam is a 40-minute ferry ride away from Singapore and it’s considered as one of the vice cities in Asia.

Kids as young as 13-years-old started working as prostitutes, most of them lured to the capital by empty promises.

Channel NewsAsia reported on the sex trade in Batam, and most of the Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) said that the child victims they’ve helped in the past mainly pointed out Singaporean men as their main customers.

Honey, a 17-year-old sex worker also said that her clients are mainly Singaporean men.

There was even a 56-year-old Singaporean man who managed to escape from law enforcement for exploiting young girls. The police has since closed the case and his whereabouts remained unknown.

Girl Shouted At By Auntie on Bus For Accidentally Knocking into Her

If you ever watched Taiwanese variety shows where Singapore seems to be a hot topic to talk about, you’d (sometimes) hear about how Singaporeans are polite.

Cold, but polite.

But as Singaporeans, we know that’s not true. At least not all the time.

Sometimes, we meet with really nasty people, like this auntie here.

On 27 May, STOMP reported on a viral video circulating online. The video has since been taken down but the internet always remembers.

So here’s what happened.

A girl’s bag allegedly knocked into the auntie seated beside her by accident. Then she lost her cool.

“What happened to me? Just now your bag knock at me, you know?

“You understand a not?!”

She tugged violently on the girl’s bag, then demanded for an apology from the shocked girl.

And that’s not all.

She shoved the girl against the window and refused to give way when the girl tried to get out from her seat.

Then, she finally allowed her to move out of the seat, but pushed her from the back, causing her to stumble.

No one at the bus stepped forward to help the girl, but took video of the incident instead. In the video, it looked like the incident took place in an SBS bus in Singapore.

His daughter, Ethel Neo has revealed that she is three-months pregnant and is expected to deliver on 11 November, 2018.

Jack Neo confirmed the news and said proud, (grand)fatherly words.

“Some 20 years ago, my daughter had just arrived into this world. And now in a blink of an eye, she has gotten married and will soon be ‘promoted’ to a mother.”

He was filming his latest movie in Taiwan, Killer Not Stupid, when he heard the news.

Since then, he and his wife has been sending baby pictures to their daughter. So cute.

Jack Neo is hoping for a granddaughter to pamper but his daughter says she has no preference.

Congratulations to the upcoming addition to the family!

Handphone Dealer Gunned Down in M’sia on 26 May in Stable Condition

Singaporeans have long thought of retiring in a place which can maximise their retirement fund.

Because Singapore is getting too expensive liao.

But most of us wouldn’t consider Malaysia as a good place to retire in, even though it’s just beside us and the currency exchange is 1 SGD to 3 Ringgit, give or take.

But the trade off is that it’s not very safe there. Like the latest incident shows.

Tan Yi Chun, a 23-year-old handphone dealer was shot multiple times when he was on his way home on 26 May.

When he stopped his car at a red light in Jalan Kulim near Taman Sentosa, a man in a ski mask walked up and shot at his car multiple times.

Injured in his right shoulder, hand and body, Tan managed to escape from the left side of his Honda Accord.

The shooter was believed to have ran away immediately.

It was believed that a semi-automatic pistol was used.

Investigations into the shooting is ongoing and they are investigating it as a case of attempted murder.

Tan, who used to run an illegal entertainment outlet, was reported to be in stable condition.

Real Life Spiderman in Paris Saved Toddler From Falling To His Death

There is a superhero in all of us, some more apparent than others. – Boon Hun, 2098

Sounds cliche, but a man in Paris proved that saying right.

While he couldn’t shoot webs out of his wrists or kiss girls upside down, he did fulfill one important criteria of being a superhero.

Saving a life.

Here’s what happened.

On 27 May, 22-year-old Mamoudou Gassama was passing by the area when he saw a toddler hanging by his hands from a balcony on the fourth floor.

Image: channelnewsasia.com

He immediately scaled up the building using his bare hands before pulling the kid to safety.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the child was already safe and sound.

Gassama told reporters that he “acted without thinking”, and was scared stiff once the adrenaline died down in the living room of the house.

It was reported that the parents were not home at the time of incident.

The mother was not in Paris and the father was brought in to assist in investigations, and due to appear in court for trial.

Moral of the story? Don’t leave your child alone at home. And even if you did, cross your fingers and hope there’s a Mamodou Gassama around if anything happens.
