Marvel fans collectively lost their minds when Marvel announced they were going to reboot the Blade franchise with Mahershala Ali as the lead.

Blade is a half-human half-vampire superhero in the Marvel Universe.

This is the first Blade film since Blade: Trinity in 2004, where Wesley Snipes played the lead.

Perfect Casting

Fans are obviously ecstatic about the reboot, but they are especially pleased with the casting of the lead actor.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, said that Ali is the “perfect Blade because he’s one of the greatest actors working today”.

So, who exactly is Mahershala Ali?

Ali was born in California and initially pursued a career in basketball but after feeling disillusioned with the treatment of athletes, he switched to acting.

A Prolific Actor

Ali began his acting career as a regular on television series such as Crossing Jordan and Threat Matrix.

But his breakthrough role came in 2008 when he starred alongside Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Since then, he has been involved in many highly-acclaimed films and TV shows.

You might recognize him from his role in the Netflix series House of Cards, where he played Remy Danton.

He is also known for playing Colonel Boggs in the final two instalments of the Hunger Games franchise.

Not His First Marvel Project

Moreover, this new Blade film isn’t Ali’s first Marvel project.

Ali played Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in the Netflix series Luke Cage and was the voice of Miles Morales’ uncle in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
