The Marvel series X-Men has garnered quite a following ever since the release of the film in 2000. After all, who doesn’t love superheroes (and sometimes, anti-heros) with mutant powers, set in a world that’s much like ours? After the 2014 X-Men: Days of Future Past where the X-Men (actually just Wolverine) went forward into the future, we are now going backwards into the past in X-Men: Apocalypse.
In case you are wondering, the Apocalypse in the movie title is not talking about the event, but a person/super-villain/self-claimed God. However, he is also the first and most powerful mutant in the world who is seeking to destroy human civilisation, so we guess that his name is pretty fitting.
In the movie, the team of young X-Men will be saving the Earth (or will they?). Most of the main actors are reprising their roles: Jennifer Lawrence (possibly everyone’s favourite Oscar-winning actress) is shapeshifter Raven, James McAvoy is still the telepathic Professor X, Michael Fassbender is still Magneto, and Nicholas Hot, sorry we meant Hoult, is still Beast.
Oscar Issac is playing the villain Apocalypse. Most of you might recognise him as the co-star in Star Wars: The Force Awakens last December! Magneto will become one of his four Horsemen (once a villain, always a villain?) who helps him in his quest of destruction.
Some of you might remember Jean Grey as the Dark Phoenix in X-Men: The Last Stand. In this movie, we will be seeing a younger version of Jean Grey (portrayed by Sophie Turner) where a little of her dark side will be appearing. Game of Thrones fanatics may also recognise her as Sansa Stark.
With such an awesome cast, we definitely can’t wait to watch the blockbuster when it comes out in Singapore on 19 May (that’s one week earlier than the USA)!
