If you haven’t heard of the new user interface that POSB and DBS are planning to release very soon in June this year, you probably need to start reading more news on the internet.
We are all very familiar with the current interface and honestly, have not given much thought to it but our home banking brands have decided to up the ante and make it even more user-friendly for us in time to come.
First up, Tamil language is going to be introduced as an option besides English, Mandarin and Malay only right now. This probably works well now with the influx of Indian workers in the country, most of whom probably have a savings account with POSB.
It’s also useful for the older generation who may not be able to understand and read English well enough to operate the system properly. And if you are wondering about the accuracy of the Tamil text, worry no more. Apparently, the bank’s staff also reviewed and vetted the language with Tamil Murasu, the Tamil Language & Cultural Society, and linguists to “ensure accuracy and user-friendliness”.
Then there is the option to enlarge the font. This is obviously created for our twilight generation who sometimes have issues reading the text on the screen. This is almost similar to what we are able to do on our smartphones where one can choose to have the largest font size for easier reading. And how about the new “intuitive” design that promises to reduce transaction times up to 20 percent? I think that’s pure genius.
This is an awesome move by POSB/DBS, especially when you hear comments on the net on how people chose to go for other banks because the other banks have shorter queues at their ATM.
By being at the forefront of banking technology, they can be assured that their customers–us–will never be left wanting for more. Especially with the present “inverted pyramid” situation Singapore is facing in terms of our population, there is a great need to look out for and cater to our elders to ensure that the society is still able to move and progress at a good speed.
So the next time you are at a POSB or DBS ATM in June 2016, and there’s no long queue forming behind you, have a little fun checking out the new interface.
There may be other new options that these good people have added to make sure even the younger generation have an easier and more efficient banking experience.
