Singaporeans love the word “free”: we like it so much that businesses are always using it in their promotion, and the phrase “got free gift or not arh?” has become uniquely Singapore (and Malaysia, of course).
Unfortunately, scammers prey on this, and this time round, they’ve used “free tickets” as a bait.
In a latest advisory by Singapore Airlines, it’s revealed that scammers have, once again, create a fake campaign that promises free tickets, all in the name of SIA’s 70th anniversary.
If you can’t read it, here’s what they’ve posted:
[ADVISORY]
It has come to our attention that there are messages and posts about Singapore Airlines giving away free tickets in celebration of our 70th anniversary, before proceeding to request for personal data of the recipients.
We advise customers to exercise discretion when revealing personal data to unverified sources. These messages, websites, emails and calls should be verified if in doubt. Please send us details on our social media channels or via this link http://singaporeair.com/en_UK/feedback-enquiry/ and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Singapore Airlines also wishes to advise customers to be cautious of social media posts and phishing websites that appear similar to our official website singaporeair.com.

Unsurprisingly enough, this isn’t the first scam. Back in May this year, scammers have also used the same modus operandi.
According to Channel NewsAsia, there are websites that appear almost like the original SIA website. The scammer will also modify their caller ID to reflect the official SIA number. SIA has advised everyone to verify the emails or calls if in doubt.
Just like the previous scam, SIA is seeking information about the scammers to crack down on the scammers.
In fact, I remember seeing a post in Facebook about this latest scam, but like a typical Singaporean, I just scrolled through it because I #lazytocare
Well, at least it’s much better to do the PSA here that can reach out to more people.
Share with this your friends so that no one would be a victim!
