Parents are the first line of defence for their children, so it’s all the more despicable when they turn on them and hurt them instead.
A 43-year old father has pleaded guilty on 1 April to two charges of voyeurism, predating on his 13-year old daughter.
Their identities are protected by a gag order.
Here’s what happened.
The Process of the Crime
This man purchased a spy camera in the shape of a USB charger that could transmit footage to mobile phones nearby, which could then be recorded down and saved.
On the 6 July 2020, he placed the camera in a corner of his daughter’s bedroom, knowing that she would be naked when she changed into her school uniform.Â
He adjusted the camera twice to stabilise it, his face fully in frame, before leaving the room.Â
His daughter entered the room, undressed, and went for a shower, before coming back and putting on her school uniform in her bedroom, with the camera recording the whole process.
The man then came into her room to take the camera, and repeated the procedure the next morning.Â

His crimes were uncovered by his 36-year old wife, who was using his laptop one day when she stumbled upon 155 videos of their daughter in various states of undress.Â
These videos had timestamps that ranged all the way from July 2019 to July 2020.
She subsequently contacted the police, making a report in August of 2020.
In court, the father claimed that he was installing the camera to track that his daughter’s studies. However, not a single footage of her studying was found among the 155 videos so it is very likely that he was not telling the truth.Â
Next week, the man will be considered for another charge as he goes into court for sentencing.
This comes after another man was jailed on Tuesday, for placing a spy camera in his toilet to film his female friends, as well as in his workplace.Â
