Do you have a favourite restaurant?

Were you glad when you saw that your favourite restaurant is still operating when CB ended and you can get back to it?

Because if you do, well, you’ve got to do your part to keep the restaurant running.

Out Of 45 Restaurants Caught Breaking Covid-19 Measures, More Than Half Ordered To Close Temporarily

Restaurants are already having a hard enough time trying to keep their doors open for business.

Their seating capacity is effectively halved, there are customers out there who make reservations but ghost them after, and more staff has to be deployed to keep the customers in line.

Add in a temporary closure and your favourite restaurant might just become a favourite memory in your brain.

Now, before you say that I’m exaggerating, know this: Out of the 45 restaurants caught breaking the rules since Phase 2 started, more than half had to be temporarily closed.

26, to be exact, while another 19 outlets were fined.

In the latest announcement by the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE), three F&B outlets have been ordered to close for 10 days while 4 others have been fined $1,000 each.

One of the outlets ordered close is a drinks outlet at Block 261 Serangoon Central Drive. Two customers were seen still drinking alcohol at 10.55pm.

Another outlet, Beer Factory, had three groups of more than 5 people spotted by officers.

The final outlet at Hong Kong Street had a group of 15 customers mingling across four tables at a private event.

Update On Groups Of More Than 5 People

Previously, when the authorities said F&B outlets aren’t able to accept reservations for groups of more than 5 people and added that more than 5 people are allowed to eat together if they are from the same household, F&B owners be like:

What talking you?!

Well, they’ve now clarified the rules.

According to the statement by MSE:

  • F&B outlets cannot accept reservations for more than five people, even if they’re willing to split tables.
  • If they’re from the same household, the reservation can be accepted but they must still be seated in groups of five or less and have a safe distance of 1-metre between tables.
  • F&B outlets have the right to verify if the people are from the same household. How? It wasn’t specified but other than showing a Singtel bill, it likely means showing your identification card (probably).

Which means no loudly decrying the outlet if they ask you to show “proof” of address.
