An Australian man, Mat Jones, claimed that his iPhone 7 caught fire and destroyed his car when he was out surfing.

He had wrapped his new iPhone 7, which was bought just last week, in a pair of trousers and left it in his car while he went surfing.

When he noticed smoke coming out from his car, he left the waters immediately and returned to his car.

After Jones managed to remove his clothes from the car and unwrapped his trousers, he showed the burnt remains of his melted iPhone 7.

He went on to mention that he never used any 3rd party adapters nor did he drop or physically damaged his phone.

Apple currently investigating the case

Apple has stated that it is currently conducting an investigation into the issue to discover the cause of the incident.

It should be noted that the company is using Lithium-ion batteries in iPhone 7. Lithium-ion batteries have a history of catching fire due to physical damage or overheating.

Now, we can’t be sure what the cause of the fire is, but if you were to leave a phone wrapped up in trousers and left in a car to bake under the hot sun, it’s entirely plausible that the batteries will burn.
