The coronavirus has infected over 180,000 people worldwide, claimed over 7,000 lives, and has already had a significant impact on the global economy.

But it has also affected something else: our tummies.

First, you had to stop eating at your favourite Cai Png stall because you saw the uncle cough once and now you avoid it like the plague.

Then, you decided to only eat canned food for a month, but you discovered that your fellow Singaporeans had purchased all the tuna and baked beans available.

So, you started working from home and ordered takeaways, but then one delivery rider sneezed in your face and you gave up and decided to survive on eating toilet paper.

Thankfully, you won’t have to do that anymore.

Food Delivery Companies in S’pore Starts Contactless Delivery, Riders Told To Look Out For Customers

McDonald’s, Deliveroo, and WhyQ will now offer contactless delivery in a bid to ensure the safety of its riders and customers in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak.

Instead of directly handing food to customers, riders from these three companies will either hang the orders on the buyer’s door or leave it on the ground and wait at least a metre away.

McDonald’s

For customers ordering from McDonald’s, all you have to do is comment in the “Remarks” section upon checking out the order.

The rider will then inform the customer when they have arrived, and hang the orders on the buyer’s door or gate.

Then, the customer just has to open their door to retrieve their orders while the rider stands a distance away to avoid direct contact.

Deliveroo 

Deliveroo customers can choose contact-free delivery when they order from the company’s app and website.

When you’re checking out, simply choose the ‘Contact-free delivery’ option.

Upon letting the customer know that they’ve arrived, the rider will place their thermal bag on the ground outside their door.

They will then step back at least one metre and wait nearby for the customer to collect the food.

Why Q

In case you’ve not heard of Why Q, it’s a food delivery service which specialises in delivering hawker food.

They too are introducing contactless food deliveries, in line with the Government’s advisory to reduce close contact due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Why Q riders will now hang orders on the customer’s door or leave it at their doorstep.

Feedback channels for Grab

While they have not introduced contactless delivery as of yet, Grab has set up feedback channels for GrabFood customers and riders alike to flag those who seem unwell.

Customers can alert Grab if any rider seems unwell. Riders can do the same as well.

Anyone who is repeatedly flagged as showing respiratory symptoms will be asked to get medical clearance before they can continue to make deliveries.

These measures were in place even before a GrabFood rider tested positive last Friday (13 Mar). The rider made deliveries prior to being admitted to the hospital.

So, now you can go ahead with your food orders rest assured that these companies are taking the necessary precautions to ensure your safety.

(Though if you’re ordering two Big Macs a day I’d say you have other, more important things to worry about.)
