Did your parents tell you that if you donโt behave on the escalator, itโll eat your leg up?
This happened to a child at Marina Bay Sandsโ Apple Store. At least for the โeating your leg upโ part.
Childโs Foot Trapped in Escalator
On the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, a user named โDrink Rabbit Milk Dailyโ shared pictures of the incident on 10 May.

The original poster (OP) shared that a child got their foot trapped in the escalator at the Apple store and that people at the scene were panicking.
If I was the child and the adults around me were panicking too, I think Iโd start crying.
Fortunately, the quick-witted staff at the Apple store immediately brought the kid some toys and snacks to calm them down. They must have also quickly called the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), as a team arrived at the scene within minutes.
OP also included pictures of the SCDF officers rescuing the child from the escalator. From the image, it seems like the child got their foot trapped while halfway across the escalator.
The SCDF also prepared a stretcher next to the escalator for the kid, and pictures also showed an ambulance waiting outside the store.
Child Sent to Hospital
SCDF has confirmed they received a call for help on 10 May at about 7.10 pm. A childโs right foot was trapped at the side of the escalator, which they released using rescue equipment.
Afterwards, they sent the child to KK Womenโs and Childrenโs Hospital for treatment.

How Did the Foot Get Trapped?
A similar incident happened in June 2019, which could help to explain how the childโs foot got stuck in the escalator.

In the 2019 incident, a child also got their foot stuck in an escalator at Jewel Changi Airport. Back then, investigations showed that the incident happened because the childโs foot was brushing along the sides of the escalator.
If the childโs foot is small enough, it could easily slip into the space at the sides of the escalator and get stuck there. Parents should instruct children not to stand too close to the sides and not to play while on the escalator to avoid this.
After all, kids love to brush their feet and shoes against the brushes at the side of the escalator. Been there, done that.
If youโre out with younger children, it would be safer to entirely avoid escalators, as a fall on an escalatorโs sharp ridges could easily cut them too. Just take the lifts instead for your peace of mind.
