You’ve been hearing a lot about the Geylang Serai Bazaar, and you’re wondering if it’s worth a trip there.
No, you’re not concerned about the illegal workers or the fact that it’s getting more hipster. Rather, you’re more concerned about the prices of food.
Well, worry no more!
No matter whether it’s the price or the halalness of the food provided, here’s where you can go for a more delicious, exciting and cheaper Ramadan bazaar—JB!
Interesting Food You Might Want to Check Out at JB Ramadan Bazaars
1. Roti Goreng Lami
Crispy deep-fried bread roll with a generous stuffing of curry chicken or beef filling. Think the golden pillow we’re all used to in Singapore, just deep-fried.
Sinful but oh-so-worth-it.
2. Agar-Agar
Thai fried ice-cream? Soft serve? Call me old-school but to me, nothing beats a good agar-agar.
There are so many flavours there you might just be tempted to eat one of each.
3. Pulut Panggang
Despite its appearance, this isn’t a big, fat otah. Inside the banana leaf are pulut rice, grated coconut, hei bee, coriander and belacan chilli grilled over charcoal.
Savoury and smoky, this is something you can pack home for your family.
4. Everything Nasi
We’re talking about nasi briyani, nasi ayam nasi ampang and nasi kukus. Singapore also got sell leh.
True, but remember, it’s 3 to 1. Need I say more?
5. Grilled Sambal Seafood
Not only is the seafood fresher in JB (or so I heard), you can also get your hands on these grilled babies at the fraction of the cost in Singapore.
Don’t forget to add more chilli. Shiok!
6. Air Katira
Made of water, evaporated milk, pandan flavoured syrup, katira gum, basil seeds and Malva nuts; Air Katira is a popular drink with Malaysians and comes in many different flavours.
But if you don’t have much of a sweet tooth, this might not be the drink for you.
