The police got more than they bargained for when they decided to conduct a check on a suspicious man whom they suspected to be a wanted criminal.

Within minutes, the routine check turned into a thrilling chase which ended at the third-floor parking lot of the Fortune Centre where the suspect decided to jump the wall and fell 3 whole storeys to the ground.

But since he’s not a superhero or a cat, he didn’t land gracefully on his feet.

The incident involves multiple police officers arriving in at least 6 police cars and an ambulance.

A game of “Cops and Robbers”

An avid reader of the Shin Min Daily (新明日报) contacted the news outlet via their 24-hour hotline to describe the incident and a reporter was immediately dispatched to the site.

When interviewed, the police confirmed the incident.

Police officers stopped a 30-year-old man on Bugis Street on April 14 to conduct a check. He was suspected to be a wanted criminal.

Instead of complying, the man immediately dashed towards Queen Street and the police gave chase.

Backup was called as well.

The suspect ended up at the Fortune Centre’s third-floor carpark and was hiding from the police before he was eventually found.

When discovered, the man leapt over the wall of the parking lot and fell 3 storeys to the ground at a back alley.

He must have thought he was Superman or a cat with nine lives… or he might just be high on drugs, we’ll never know.

But, what we know is that like mortal men, he ended up badly hurting himself from the fall.

He was promptly arrested by the police stationed at the back alley for suspected drug-related offences, fraudulent possession of property, and is allegedly involved in a case of snatch theft.

The police investigation is underway.

Like a scene out of a police drama

The thrilling chase, like it was a scene out of a police drama, was all witnessed by people around the scene.

When interviewed, 29-year-old Mr Chen said that he saw a Malay man around his 20s and 30s who was arrested by police in the back alley of the Fortune Centre at 9 pm and was sent away in the ambulance.

An unnamed shopkeeper also mentioned to the daily news reporter that the police found drugs on the arrested man and that the suspect left some belongings on the third floor of the parking lot.

The belongings were subsequently photographed by the police to record as evidence before being placed into zipper bags and sealed.

Based on what was seen by the reporter, the items include a cigarette case, a bank card (can be either debit or credit), a plastic hose, 2 plastic bottles, and some other items.
