Imagine this: You’ve just found your supper spot for the night and are enjoying your delicious meal when someone approaches you to try and get you to buy something they’re selling.

You say no and expect the person to leave, but you end up getting “suan-ed” and even hit by that person’s companion.

As unfortunate (and unlucky) as that sounds, that’s exactly what happened to a man in Singapore last Saturday (22 April) night.

The victim, Mr Cai (Hanyu pinyin), was at the famous Beef Kuay Teow store along Geylang Lorong 9 when the incident happened at around 10.45 pm that night.

When speaking to Shin Min Daily News, Mr Cai mentioned that a young man with tattoos on his left arm was walking around and trying to sell keychains to him at his table.

Mr Cai, 39, added that the man walked around with “a sign full of words” but noted that he was not deaf or mute.

As such, Mr Cai suspected that the man could be a scammer of sorts, which prompted him to refuse to buy the latter’s keychains politely.

However, the man did not leave and tried to continue promoting his keychains, which Mr Cai said disrupted his meal.

In an attempt to try and stop the man from disrupting his meal further, Mr Cai told the man that he “did not have money” on him.

Seller “Suan-ed” Victim, Started Hurling Vulgarities As Well

Upon hearing Mr Cai’s response, the man walked away while uttering, “No money still can eat good food.”

Basically, he “suan-ed” Mr Cai for not purchasing the keychains.

When he heard the man’s comment, Mr Cai immediately questioned what he just said.

This caused the man to retaliate and start hurling vulgarities at Mr Cai.

Eventually, Mr Cai got so angry that he started arguing with the man before requesting that he leave so that Mr Cai could continue to have his meal in peace.

He grabbed a nearby glass coffee mug and swiftly hit Mr Cai on the head with it.

As a result, Mr Cai sustained a gash on his right forehead and started bleeding on the spot.

Additionally, right before he hit Mr Cai, the man shouted, “Don’t mess with my brother!”

Yup, talk about camaraderie…

Used in the worst possible way ever.

Victim Ended Up With Stitches, Head Still Hurts

After being hit in the head, Mr Cai recalled feeling dizzy.

The only other vague memory he had after the incident was that someone helped him to sit down on a chair.

Another person called an ambulance for him too.

After being assessed at the hospital, Mr Cai ended up with three stitches in his forehead and two days of medical leave.

However, Mr Cai claimed that his head still hurts and that he still has no appetite to eat.

While at the hospital, the doctor also instructed him to attend a follow-up session scheduled for a week after the incident (29 April) and told him that he would need to undergo an X-ray to check for internal bleeding if his head still hurts by then.

Victim Made a Police Report on the Night of the Incident

Apart from that, Mr Cai shared that he made a police report online on the night of the incident after being discharged from the hospital.

He also disclosed that the police have since contacted him to record his statement.

Regarding the incident, Mr Cai expressed his hopes that the two men would be arrested soon in the name of justice.

He also asked those with information about the two men to contact the police.

More Details About the Men

As for how the men look like, Mr Cai said that the man selling the keychains was around 180 cm tall and looked “extremely healthy”.

He also clarified that the man’s healthy appearance was why he suspected that the man could have been a scammer.

On the other hand, the man who hit Mr Cai on the head stood at about 165 cm, but Mr Cai was unable to get a good look at his physical features and whether he was tattooed or not.

Apart from that, Mr Cai pointed out that since the man who assaulted him referred to the keychain seller as his “brother”, he believes that both men are acquainted.

Store’s Response: Both Men Are Not Familiar Faces

When speaking to Shin Min, an employee of the store explained that individuals do appear at the store to try and walk about to sell their products.

According to the employee, who declined to be named, the restaurant’s staff usually does not turn such individuals away.

However, they added that these two men were “unfamiliar faces” to the eatery.

The employee added that the restaurant was extremely busy at the time of the incident, which was why staff members were unaware of what was happening until after the incident when another patron helped Mr Cai to sit down.

However, both men fled before the police arrived. They have not appeared at the restaurant since then either.
