Apple users, I am sure you would have faced this problem.
iPhone’s cable aka lightning cable has a very short life expectancy, shorter than a carton of milk that is left at room temperature.
There are many stages to the lightning cable before it dies.
The first stage is when you have to place the cable at a specific angle in order to get your phone charged.
The second stage is when the wires are exposed.
The third stage is…R.I.P.
I am pretty certain that all of us would still use the cable despite the exposed wires.
I mean, I still do ‘coz where got time to change a new one.
Maybe I have to find time….
Why the sudden change of heart, you might ask.
Well, I am sure you would too after you hear this story.
China Times reported that 14-year old Le Thi Xoan who was living in Hoan Kiem, Vietnam, was electrocuted to death by her phone cable.
What happened
Just like all of us, she placed her iPhone 6 on her bed and plugged in to charge before sleeping on 6 Nov.
But she didn’t wake up from her sleep.
Her charging cable supposedly had some tears in it, exposing the wires underneath. The moment her body came into her contact with the strong electric current, she was electrocuted to death.
She was rushed to the hospital by her family but it was too late.
How did it happen
The police who investigated the case suspects that the faulty cable is the culprit. They also found the cable which had black burn marks.
The police are still continuing to investigate the incident.
One thing to take note is that they are not able to determine whether the cable is the original lightning cable from Apple or if it is one of the cheapo ones you can get from pasar malam stores (you know what I am talking about).
Thoughts
Original or not, I am throwing away my charger right now.
I ain’t gonna be dead, just because I am too lazy to get a new one.
For those who were still on the fence, I hope this story managed to change your mind.
Even if you’re really lazy to get a new one, do yourself and your colleagues a favour: don’t get a chiong one.
