19YO Saved by Bamboo Poles After Falling 10 Storeys from Woodlands HDB Flat

On 28 Dec 2020, a terrifying accident happened at an HDB block in Woodlands.

A 19-year-old girl fell from the kitchen window from the tenth floor all the way to the first floor for unknown reasons.

Thankfully, she survived, and it’s all due to her neighbour.

What Happened

According to Zaobao, the incident took place at around 5am at Blk 437 Woodlands St 41.

A resident who stayed at Blk 436 said she heard a loud “bang” when the incident happened.

Assuming that it was caused by the estate cleaners, she thought nothing of it.

It was only around 7am, when her daughter left her home and saw police officers and an ambulance, did they know someone had fallen from the block.

The police officers secured the site for two hours, seemingly intent on searching for something, according to another resident living nearby.

A resident in the area pointed out that over the past few days, it had been raining heavily in the afternoon.

This led to many residents in the area hanging their wet clothes to dry earlier in the morning.

It was speculated that it was these clothes and bamboo poles that somehow cushioned and slowed down the girl’s fall, helping her survive the accident.

A broken bamboo pole was seen near the site of the girl’s fall.

Arrested

According to the Singapore Police Force, a 19-year-old girl was sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in a conscious state.

It was added that the girl has been arrested under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act.

It was further reported that the girl has suffered serious injuries and is still in the hospital.

Second Day In A Row This Happened

A day before that, an 18-year-old teenager jumped from the sixth floor of an HDB block after a quarrel with his girlfriend.

She had wanted to break up with him but he refused.

Friends who went with him to the block to talk with the girl said the pair had conversed at the staircase landing on the sixth floor before the tragedy happened.

The teenage boy was conscious after he landed on the first floor.

An eyewitness who was there said that the teenage boy could nod to the police’s questions when they had arrived.

The SPF also said that they have sent the boy to Changi General Hospital in a conscious state.

Police investigations are ongoing for the incident.
