On 28 Nov, Paradigm Mall opened it’s doors to the public.
And naturally, the hype level was over 9000. Because new stuff. And kamehama.
However, it seems that the mall’s diamond-glittered run might have run into a roadblock of sorts, as it announced on 13 Dec that it will be temporarily unable to serve shoppers.
The mall then updated it’s status yesterday (14 Dec), informing patrons that it’s not yet ready for re-opening. This was accompanied by a letter from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the only electric utility company in Peninsular Malaysia.
Transcript (in case you can’t read):
“Dear Valued Shoppers,
We regret to inform you that the power supply to our mall has yet to be restored. Therefore, we are unable to serve shoppers at the time being.
We are monitoring this issue closely with TNB and we will keep all shoppers updated on the status.
Once again, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Thank you.”
It’s not just Paradigm Mall
Fortunately (or unfortunately), Paradigm Mall isn’t exactly JEM, in the sense that it’s not the lone troublemaker in town.
A power outage had actually affected parts of the city, including Bukit Indah, Horizon Hills, Hotel Granada, Nusa Idaman and Jalan Skudai, on 12 December.
As a result, major malls like Paradigm and AEON were forced to shut down temporarily.
However, things are looking up as a recent TNB statement (on 13 Dec) has stated that “more than 95 per cent of the areas hit by the power outage have had their electricity supply restored”.
The Horizon Hill and Bukit Indah areas, on the other hand, have not yet been restored, although the issue was expected to be resolved by yesteday morning (14 Dec).
When will they reopen?
So far, there’s been no clear indication on Paradigm’s side.
AEON Mall staff, however, have said that the mall is projected to reopen on Saturday (16 Dec).
Paradigm Mall
The JB-located mall, that’s situated along the Skudai Highway, stretches more than 2 million sq ft.
It features the largest movie theatre in the state, a 20,000 sq ft ice skating rink, Malaysia’s first indoor skate park and a wide range of renowned names.
Well, here’s hoping that Paradigm Mall will be back up and running soon!
