Taking a Grab can save a lot of time. And most Grab drivers are nice and friendly.

But sometimes, you meet with the bad ones.

It could be as harmless as the guy who cancels on you immediately if you’re not a pretty girl.

Or it could be worse.

A Scary Grab Incident

A girl’s mother, Ellis Phua, took to Facebook to share about her daughter’s scary experience with Grab.

On 3 Feb, Phua’s daughter booked a Grab ride to Yio Chu Kang Swimming Complex.

During the journey, she noticed that the Grab driver missed her exit and drove onto Seletar Expressway (SLE) before exiting via Lentor Avenue.

And that’s when things got weird.

The driver entered the expressway again, onto Yio Chu Kang, then Ang Mo Kio street 65 before finally coming to a stop at a dead end.

Refused To Continue Until She Sits In Front

Now, you’re already terrified that a strange man has brought you to a place you didn’t want to go.

Then, the Grab driver reportedly asked her to sit at the front seat.

If not, he won’t drive.

The driver eventually drove her to Ang Mo Kio street 64 and allowed her to alight from the vehicle.

Phua’s daughter left $17 on the back seat and hurried away from the vehicle.

Harrassed Three Different Women in a Day

Later, it was revealed that Phua’s daughter wasn’t the only victim that day.

Three different women have lodged police reports against the Grab driver for harassment.

All three women’s statements revealed similar complaints: dangerous driving, requesting for them to sit in the front seat and not driving them to their destinations.

Arrest & Grab’s Response

On 4 Feb, the police arrested the Grab driver.

He has been referred to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for psychiatric assessment.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, Grab has also responded to the incident.

A spokesperson for Grab said that they’re aware of the incident and is currently conducting investigations into it.

They added that they take passenger’s safety very seriously and will not hesitate to punish indecent behaviours.

The driver has been suspended from Grab with effect from 3 Feb 2020.

Remember, while we’re all used to taking private-hire vehicles to our destinations, always be careful during your journey.

Be like Phua’s daughter who despite the coercion, scolded the driver when he allegedly almost got off the vehicle while she was stranded.
