It’s 2022: Hating random people anonymously on the internet is such a faux pas.

But it still happens more than often—and so, Malaysian food delivery rider, and Tiktok user @zmaly07 clapped back with force.

What went down

Muhammad Norazmaly Abdul Malek, a 26-year old food delivery rider since December last year, posted a Tiktok on 7 March. The Tiktok video showed him caught in heavy rain, telling himself to remain patient in the face of the terrible weather while smiling brightly.

Despite the seemingly uncontroversial content, netizens thought otherwise. Criticism and accusations rained in about him deserving this suffering as a part of his job because he did not study when he was young.

Clearly, netizens really took their parents saying “study hard or you’ll become a *insert minimum wage job*” seriously.

But Norazmaly did not take the hate lying down.

In a separate Tiktok video responding to a hate comment, he showed off his university degree certificates in their full glory, effectively shutting up all the haters.

The truth behind the video

In an interview with mStar, Norazmaly revealed that he graduated last July with a degree in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Mechanical) at UniKL MIAT, Sepang.

Instead of going on to do something related, he chose to help out and assist with his family’s small business—his father’s burger stall, and his mom who sells rojak.

Hence, he took up the job of a food delivery rider so that he can both earn extra cash, and still help his parents with their booming businesses. Even though he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he is grateful to live a modest life.

His Call to Action

Norazmaly stated that he wasn’t offended about the criticism he received, but he wanted to show the netizens that their prejudice against the unemployed or low-wage workers is wrong.

Just because they have not received a suitable job offer doesn’t mean that they are uneducated, Norazmaly emphasises.

“After all, there’s nothing wrong with working as a food delivery man.”

He also made sure to highlight that we should not underestimate other people or degrade them because you do not know what they are going through.
