A while back, you might’ve read about Facebook user Shahril Jantan’s personal recount, in which he chronicled his experience with a wheelchair-bound GrabFood delivery personnel.

Applauding the delivery personnel for her perseverance, Shahril shared how she’s an inspiration for other able-bodied people like me and you, and hoped that she can overcome the challenges before her.

Here, you can read the original post here.

Later on, it was revealed that she had grown up with cerebral palsy, a condition that took away her ability to walk since birth.

But that’s not all

For it seems that we now know her identity, as well as backstory.

In a video interview with Berita Harian Singapore, Sumaiyah Ghazali, 40, revealed that she had only started working with Grab four months ago. As the job empowers her to help her family, she felt very motivated when she’s out on her rounds.

But like all things, circumstances, especially forces we can’t control, have no care for such petty things as motivation.

“It is troublesome when it rains. I have to open my umbrella. If the wind is strong, I have to ‘fight’ it because the wind will keep pulling my umbrella away.”

But that’s not the only thing her umbrella’s good for, it seems, as she also uses it to knock on doors if she cannot reach them with her hands.

Slick use of an umbrella if I may kindly mention.

Towards the end of the video, she stated that it would be ideal if customers were more understanding of her condition.

“To all customers, if you see my name, Sumaiyah B, I seek your patience and understanding of people like me whose movements are quite slow. But I will try to deliver as fast as I can.”

Netizens react

With 11K shares at the current moment, I think it’s fair to say that the video has gone viral. Really viral.

And as you might’ve surmised from viral videos, you’ll tend to notice lots of comments. Loads. And indeed, this particular video garnered well over 1K comments, the majority of which were heartfelt and encouraging.

There was also another account of a disabled deliveryman, who pleaded for the customers’ understanding.

All in all, it seems that Netizens truly respect Sumaiyah B, which is surely what Shahril intended for when he first posted his viral account of the deliveryman.

Kudos, kudos.

And so… what should we do now?

Well, for one, perhaps we could all be more understanding if the deliverymen happen to be ‘inconvenienced’ in one way or another.

And for two…

We should stop being so grievous towards life when in reality, we should really be grateful for what we already have.
