If SAF ever needs a new idea to encourage their soldiers to work out their calories, catching ‘em all might be a good solution.
According to a report on Forbes, the CEO of Niantic, John Hanke, said that people playing Pokémon GO has walked (or run or crawl or drive or cheat—whatever it is lah) a total of 4.6 billion kilometres.
That’s 4,600,000,000 km.

That’s like travelling from the earth to the sun 30 times. Or walking from the east of Singapore to the west of Singapore 92 million times.
And the total number of calories burned? 340 billion.
Of course, this figure might not be completely accurately since some people have resorted to hacking the game to gain more mileage. But that’s still a large number; after all, if we do the maths based on the number of active users at 30 million, here’s the distance one player walk on average.
153 km.
That roughly works out to walking from Tuas to Changi three times. Imagine the amount of exercise you’re getting just to catch those virtual monsters! And need me to remind you that the game is just about two months old?
I don’t know about you, but this news is kind of encouraging. After all, the first person who reportedly caught all Pokémon, Nick Johnson, lost about 3 kg.
Time to hit the gym hit the Pokémon GO app.
