Many of us have the habit of using our cell phone when we are charging it. We really should STOP doing this! It is dangerous as the process of charging the phone filled it with electrical currents and we could potentially be electrocuted.
There have been many cases of people getting electrocuted because they were using their cell phone while charging. The latest case happened in Malaysia just a few days ago.
A young woman 30 years of age was electrocuted to death on April 15 around 11.30pm. She was charging her phone at her home in Taman Desa Baiduri of Kuala Lumpur’s suburb of Cheras when a call came in. She answered the phone while it was still plugged into the charger.
It was said that electrical current entered the woman’s body through her usage of her phone. Her husband, who was sleeping when the incident happened, was roused and quickly sent her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival by the medical personnel.
Another case was reported in Miami Hospital where a young man was charging his phone and a call came in. He answered the phone without unplugging it from the charging device and in a few seconds, the electricity flowed into the phone unrestrained and it caused the phone to explode.
The young man was electrocuted and his hand was burnt as well. His parents found him unconscious on the floor and rushed him to the hospital only to have the paramedics pronounced him dead on arrival.
With so many horror stories about this, we went on to find out why it is not advisable to use the phone when you are charging it. There have been a lot of explanations on why these things happened.
One of the most plausible explanations is the origins of the charging device. There are now many charging devices in the market with most of them not from the mobile phone manufacturers.
When we use a 3rd party charging device, this kind of dangerous happenings tend to occur more often. This is because non-original devices may not follow the safety measures that are put into the original devices during manufacturing. When those safety measures are not followed, accidents of such nature tend to occur more often.
Therefore, it is always important to use original devices when it comes to electrical appliances and ensure that it is used in the correct manner. As long as you are using it in the right manner, such horror cases should be minimised to the minimum, and of course, unplug your phone from the charger before you answer the phone call.
It’s better to be safe than sorry, right?
