China, the land of tea, is now home to the world’s biggest Starbucks and it is the second Starbucks Reserve Roastery in the world.
This newly-minted café, which opened this week, is located in Shanghai and the 30,000 sq ft place is decked in gold monochrome.
Apart from just their usual coffee offerings, the cafe also serves beer, wine and spirits.
Craft beers, anyone?
This Starbuck definitely has a bright future ahead as it got Jack Ma’s seal of approval (figuratively, of course).
Yes, Jack Ma made a grand appearance on the opening day (6 Dec) and people were more than eager to hear what he had to say.
The founder of Alibaba explained why the Seattle-based coffee chain is able to successfully break into the Chinese market, especially when they are more inclined to drink tea.
He said, “You guys have transformed China, a country drinking tea, and you make so many people love coffee,” Ma said. “I don’t like coffee, but I like Starbucks.”
He also mentioned that the reason why Starbucks is successful is because it focused on understanding the Chinese market and people, along with making its coffee with abstract ingredients like “heart,” “love,” and “passion.”
Such encouraging words…
Maybe it has to do with the fact that Alibaba has collaborated with Starbucks to provide the technology to create the “first fully immersive coffee experience in Asia’ via augmented reality.
But that aside, the Starbucks looks like as if it belongs in the Buckingham Palace.
Anyone wants to head to Shanghai?
